Electricity Bill - Confused totally
Options
Hi
I have today received a letter from EON stating they are going to take legal action if I don't pay a bill within the next 7 days. I have just phoned them to ask what it was all about as I hadn't received any bills from them for at least 6 months and paid by direct debit.
I switched to Scottish Power from the 1st June and am now happily paying them. However EON have said that we owe them £290 from 21st December. I am confused as I was paying a direct debit for £39 a month and they say this outstanding bill was on top of what I was paying.
So does that mean after doing my figures, I should have been paying just under £100 a month for electricity?!
I know prices are high and that my house does use all electricity but it is only a 1 bedroom house.

It is very very unlikely that £39 a month would cover electric in an all electric home, so you will have built up a debit amount. How much will depend on what sort of heating you used, eg night storage on E7 tariff or panel heating on full price electric.
The £290 could also have been accruing from previous quarters, so the bad news is that you could well owe it.Sorry.0 -
I've just spoken to them and got my meter readings and it is correct.
I blame my partner who refuses to turn things like the tv and computer off. He just said that if he turned things off it would only save about £10 - £15 a month!!
It doesn't help that I have to pay the household bills whilst he pays the mortgage etc, I could murder him :mad:0 -
They should have sorted this out at the switchover. I recommend you contact energywatch. I seem to recall that after a certain time period, Eon won't be able to chase you.
Try also: directorofCustomerService@eonenergy.com0 -

But the OP only changed from EON on 1st June; so this is EON presumably trying to 'sort it out'
It does seem early for them to start threatening legal action, but it is not at all unusual for there to be an outstanding bill when a customer moves from a supplier.0 -

Nicole did you register your account online at any stage as that would explain why you've not been sent any bills for 6 months. Also have you received a final bill and if so what period does it cover?0
