Gambling debts accrued on credit cards.

I have been browsing here for a while and searching the site for an answer.

My friend is going through bankruptcy and he has at least £22K owing to quite a few different credit card companies that were mostly his gambling debts.

He maintains that they will all be written off but I am not so sure.I know he did switch some on a 0% balance transfer at easter and is adamant he will not have any of those to pay back either. I maintain that he does and that the receivers will find the debts through the referencing agencies.

HELP!

Thanks.

he will have to declare all his debts and explain how they came about.
if he lies on the form then he is transforming a civil issue into a potentially criminal one.
whether they will find out is I can't say
  • Thanks Clapton.

I'm sure he thinks the official receivers wont did that deep but I fear that they will then there will have to be a lot of explaining done to me and his family. Its the aftermath I am seriously worried about.

I know he is somehow still playing the on-line poker tournaments & the profiles are open for anyone who is a member to view.

He seems to have a serious gambling problem which will not stop when he is made bankrupt. This will put a stop to all his credit/debit cards but be very careful that he does not have access to any of your cards.

It would be a good idea for you now to take him off any joint accounts you may have.
  • Thank you. I do think that he might have access to his mothers cards and using those. I know he won a tournament online and got over £200 but has lost a lot more since.

This is fraud! (Unless his mother has given permission! which I would have thought was unlikely.
Somebody needs to report him to the Police.

I honestly dont know what is going on. I dont want the police to get involved but if he carries on gambling then I know that he will get caught out eventually no matter what and it is the repercussions I am scared of.

I have a feeling though that one of his family or a close friend even may have trusted him enough to give him a card and he then pays the balance at the end of each month.

    He does need serious help.

  • Well whatever happens he is lucky to have a friend who cares enough to come on here and seek out information on his situation.

    Good Luck
