The downside of switching..
I am with scottish power, and decided to switch to the 2011 fixed price offer.
All went smoothly, at the same time decided to move my gas from british gas to scottish power to tidy the accounts as I hate paperwork.
The scottish power customer rep fixed my DD to £110 for both electric and gas.
Now they want to charge me £110 plus £60 for the gas on top.
When I called them i was told if I want to reduce the DD, I need to supply up todate meter readings.
I have only one gas fire and a gas hob so my gas usage is minimal, so scottish power you will be getting a few readings the same for the next few months.
You can see why people never switch suppliers, so I am now £60 a month worse off until the DD is reduced or I get a refund, and switching is supposed to be easy!

Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T

Switching is normaly smooth, as long a few things are done,
1, you dont have a balance with supplier your leaving, (can be a nasty shock to find you move and get a massive bill for final reads which should be taken from your gaining supplier and passed to the old supplier, and due to a few estimations you have a £400 odd bill)
2, You find out your usage before switching supplier this way when you do a comparsion you know exactly what you will pay with the gaining supplier, nothing worse than moving to another company thinking the ammount the rep that called to your door is offering is really really really good, (it usually is to get his/her sale)
3, When switching always make sure your new supplier has the initial reading and because you have checked your usage with your old supplier you can argue your point with then new one stopping stupid increases in the begining either by them setting a low d.d causing a massive increase further down the line to cover your usage and your debt (energy companys usually spread it over 4 month D.D ) or stupidly high due to them not knowing your usage and going off a guestimate
Hope this helps0
