in Techie Stuff
Advice needed. I am a novice with computers can surf the web, type, print but when it comes to technical stuff forget it.
:j
(1) First problem, sons computer purchased few years ago from pc world, (don't get the backup discs) I should have done back up discs but didn't and as it has crashed and no discs can't bring it back up only had half of windows xp and no service disc ( borrowed from friend) any ideas how I can get the discs because as far as I am aware all data still in hard drive. Can I telephone anyone and purchase discs as I have genuine number for windows xp (on top of his computer)?
(2) Second Problem as I have already put on forum daughters laptop states password not correct even though it was but after keying in password loads of times notice number lock was on so messed that up and no password reset discs (what a mess)
So what I am asking is what discs should I download and back up regarding these technical machines, I do need to educate myself:rotfl:
Hey not gone onto wireless routers as yet;)

There might be a second partition on the hard drive with the winXP installation stored there.
Second problem, do you have caps lock on? Is the user name correct?
There are no "discs" to download. After 2yrs its better to do a clean install, having backed up your data. If there is no 2nd partition, can you borrow a cd and use your serial number? Try a recovery option from there first to get the system running, or remove the harddrive and install in 2nd pc to get the data off.0
