Asda Credit Card Renewal

I have had my Asda credit card for nearly 3 years and have never missed payment and used it a lot.

I made a routine call to them this morning and mentioned it was due to expire soon and when could I expect my new card. I was informed I would have to call them nearer the time to request a new card as new ones were not being automatically sent out

Does this sound correct to you guys? I don't have a huge balance on it (having recently done a balance transfer of a few hundred quid to a 0% deal) but it has a relatively high credit limit and I need it for emergencies so I obviously want a new card if I can get one.

couldnt you get another card with 0% on, and perhaps cancel this one before the date expires? ive always thought they renew them well before the expiry date too .......
  • I could but its unlikely they would give me such a good credit limit - this one has increased over the years I have had it and is now worth keeping for the credit limit alone IMO.

Wonder why they are doing that - i have asda card but it's valid till 11/10
i,ve never heard of a card not being re-issued apart from when you misbehave on it, not that this is the case here like.

You could always get a 0% card, and start to build up that credit limit, but keep the ASDA one for when you need that little extra, but slowly over time move your custom, if that's how they're going to treat you?

Abbey did this to me once. They said it was because they wanted to make sure they were sending cards to people who actually did still want them. Bit of a strange procedure if there is regular use on the card - I can understand if the account is dormant. I think it's just laziness to be honest!!
  • Cheap_charlie, did you not ask them the reason why your card's not being automatically re-issued? Could it be something to do with your credit history viz Experian/Equifax? I know you said you never miss a payment, but do check your credit report to see if your identity has been compromised and some fraudster has used your identity to obtain ccs/loans/credit in your name, thereby destroying your credit history.

Also possibly related to what a few credit card issuers did last year by closing the accounts of their 'non-profitable' customers - nothing to do with credit rating, everything to do with if they were making money off you.
