Hi,
I,m thinking of going to Amsterdam next month for 2 nights with my girlfriend.Any suggestions regarding flights, hotels(location) etc.
I've seen one or two deals on lastminute.com which look reasonable.
Apologies if this has been posted recently.
Thanks.

Do it yourself, book your flights. Then find your accommodation. it is much cheaper to do it this way. And the transfer from the airport to amsterdam is only 15 mins on the train. And they run every 15 mins.
Amsterdam is a fantastic city. And well worth a visit.
here is a link to a web site and there is some good advice about amsterdam.

There is 10 pages of good information here.
I booked the 5* hotel Barbizion palace it was fantastic, and just a few pounds dearer than someof the 3* hotels.

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=97965 was a few days back.
I'll add, we did the Harich ferry overnite once - no problems with £$£$ or trip - but you wasted soooooooo much of your time, when https://www.easyjet.com is ap n over n into Amsterdam in no time!!
Depending on what sort of sites you want, the big tourist barges let you have dinner n commentary as they drift around some canal areas. If this is slightly appealing & you want to see stuff from water, try the small private boats, carrying just a dozen or so people, around the areas the big boats don't get too.A few cans of Heiniken(& I don't even drink!!) & a more personal n friendley nite, you'l not find anywhere else in the world!!
The hotel will let you know how this works - there's a free sheet ad-paper in most rooms.
& if you want to bike ride, get your discounted tickets from reception & just take off! Better still, take your bike on the free ferry, behind Central Station, onto the other side & follow the reasonably well marked route, you'll see a pretty n relaxing Holland (but with a sore bum!!)
AVOID any of the unlit areas, easy to keep away from, just off the main 'RedLite' tourist walk, that everyone just has to check out!!! Also be aware of unsavoury drug dealers, who lurk on the bridges around here, too. They won't bother you if you DON'T involve conversation.
& if your girlfriend likes shoes - plenty places to look!!
For food - plenty places all cuisine, but if you want snack - easy stuff, the big supermarket, 1/2 way up the walk from Central Station to hotel I mentioned, to your left, has 7 or 8 steps along the entire frontage, everyone sits on to eat/relax, has cooked food/salad bar just inside the doorway. With all usual foods/drink at OKish £$£$
I like this place!!

I agree 100%. Myself and my partner were in Amsterdam last weekend. I flew with bmibaby from East Midlands Airport - flights cost something like £45 each inc taxes & charges and we got the hotel through Priceline. I got the 4* Renaissance Amsterdam for just under £60 per night and it was fantastic.Saint_Chris wrote:Do it yourself, book your flights. Amsterdam is a fantastic city. And well worth a visit.
As Saint_Chris says, the train from the airport to the city centre is cheap and ultra-efficient and they were running every 8 mins when I was there! Our hotel was a 5 minute walk from the Central Station but if you find you are further away, there are trams running to all parts of the city.
If you want any help with using Priceline then PM me and I'll be happy to assist.
Good luck! This space has been intentionally left blank0 -

Just a small joke about Amsterdam. I'm going there in just under 2 weeks time and when I told my children about it the youngest one said "Is that where all the hamsters come from?"2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
