Help Advice Needed For Windows Vista

Options
Hi Everyone:j

Hope you can help regarding my daughters laptop, She has had the same password for some time but unfortunately over the pass couple of days when she inserts this password it tells her that the password or user name is incorrect. I have tried various different ways but says incorrect. It states that to reset the password that I need a floppy disk or usb flash drive which should be a reset password disc. Haven't got a clue what is needed nor have I downloaded one for her any advice how to get round this I am absolutely puzzled how the password can be changed as she has had the same password for some time. Bit worried could someone have hacked into her computer also worried as we are on wireless and I have heard that when we are online anyone can hacked into the wireless. I have got padlock on the wireless network

would booting into safe mode remove this????? then once you get into safe mode you can remove the password??

i'm not sure if this will work though

or just re install wondows.....a pain but will make your laptop faster as it gets rid of all the jumk!!!
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right

Tried going into safe mode didn't remove this as it is the password for the computer and not windows. If I try to re -install windows would this remove it or not as it is the computer password

Reinstalling Windows would reset the password but you would also lose everything on the computer - so not an option, unless it is brand new or you have very recently backed up.

Windows Vista works differently to XP so booting up in Safe Mode won't reset or enable you to bypass the password.

I very much doubt somebody could have hacked into the wireless and changed the password on the computer, don't panic, there is sure to be a solution!
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right

Thanks for the advice, I did try and boot into safe mode no joy and press repair computer no joy it doesn't by pass the computer password so unless I can get pass that I can't even turn on the system. I don't really want to reinstall the discs have done this before on another system and loss a lot of data that was important. I have read to remove the battery from the system and wait an hour, this is what I am doing now you never know it might work. Hope can find a solution, didn't do a reset disc nor set up an administator account on my daughter system didn't think about it. I can't even access it from my computer only can access aol account. Hope you can understand how I am explaining........

sorry but no you are not being very clear here.
If it is windows that is requesting a password then removing the battery will not make any difference, that will only help if it's a bios password on a standard pc.
Many laptops have extra security built in to bios to stop password removal by battery removal.
I think from your description it is the password for windows and safe mode will allow you to access the windows admin account which in turn will allow you to reset the user password.
I have not run across this issue myself but i would not try and re-install windows over the existing installation for various reasons.
What make of laptop is it, maybe the admin password was pre-installed.
There are a few utils out there to remove windows passwords but many are not that user friendly and may take some work.
Try googling windows password removal, though be careful you have anti-virus anti spyware security in place.

Is the wrong advice. Unless you manually delete the partition, when installing Vista, Vista moves all user folders and the contents of the Program Files folder to a folder called Windows.old where you can retrieve what you want.

Can you get into the BIOS (normally by pressing F2, Del or F9) before it prompts for the password? This is where the system password is set - I assume this is the password that you mean?

I am not great on computers so any advice will have to be talked through. The laptop is vista home basic when going through on safe mode it will allow me to go on admin and asks for a password haven't got a clue what password they want not set up an admin account on this computer as got my own, daughter just put password on so that no one could switch on the computer. So it is this password that I need and not the windows password. would the password be mine from my computer?????????????the main users password, we are on wireless so her laptop is connected to mine. or where would I find the password Sorry everyone I know you wil have to explain and simplify what to do.
