There was another thread on here and that gave a link to Times Online I think and they had a list of 50p items - from what I can remember it was butter, sausages, lettuice, bananas, bloomer loaf and a few other bits. I think there were 10 items in all.

Did anyone watch GMTV this morning??

I think thay were saying that tesco were not only going to start price matcing lidl but were going to cut the cost of basics by 50%/

DId anyone else hear this or was I dreaming

I read it in one of the free London papers this afternoon. Asda are slashing many prices too. Apparently Aldi and Iceland have seen increases in sales of about 15% to 20% as more people started shopping there.

Good for the customer, but I hope the suppliers won't be paid even less than they are now... :o

This is what annoys me, they have been putting their prices up, but not passing the increases onto the farmers -although i hate having to pay extra, if i thought the producers where actually benefitting it wouldnt leave such a bad taste!!!

So, not so much a price war, more a quick bit of price arm wrestling.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

Not only the producers are not benefiting, but quite often they are asked at the last moment to slash their prices as a contribution to the supermarket for selling their produce. Those who refuse are blacklisted and find it hard to deal with supermarkets again. This is what I read a while back anyway.

Just in case anyone's interested, I found the asda list: http://hotukdeals.com/item/205560/50p-deals-asda/

Think I might stock up on butter for the freezer, and maybe my omniverous OH would appreciate some sausages :)

I read that too-it was quite a long article if I remember correctly.

Tesco and Asda have both made staements that it will be their own profits that take a hit from this reduction not the suppliers-I hope so as the suppliers are probably too scared to lose custom to speak out!
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
