Need To Get Some Stair Carpet-Help!

Morning All

Im having my stairlift fitted in the next few weeks and the stair carpet could really do with being replaced. It has some bleach stains on it that wont come out and being a rich red colour is very noticeable  A friend of a friend fitted all John Lewis underlay (dont ask-but saved us a fortune!) for us on the stairs so we really just need the carpet.
Know roughly what im looking for (very old worldy style-shabby chic flowers etc IYKWIM..LOL) as the rest of the house is wooden flooring. We dont really have the money to do it, but it needs to be done before lift goes in-so will have to go on the credit card. Or can you get good quality second hand carpets? OH has suggested us selling our Dyson Animal as the onl room which has carpet is our bedroom and the stairs, and we have a handheld hoover for the stairs. Should get about £150 for it as we still have cover till 2007, and new they are £300 I think. Do you think this is a good idea? We can put this to the carpet then.
Someone mentioned a loan from the DSS but have only been on Income Support since June. Its annoying that we have to do it now, but if not its going to be difficult/impossible to do when the stairlift goes in. Is there any other help we can ask for?
Anyways, which carpet company would people recomend. Obviously it has to be money saving but I do want a decent good quality carpet that will last and wear well for next 10 years + What kind of carpet would be best for stairs?
Sorry all these questions.

    Have you tried freecycle?

Someone mentioned that you can get stuff for free once you have given something away yourself?

If you have spilt bleach by accident wouldn't you be able to make a claim on your home insurance.
  • Hiya

I could claim on the insurance but havent made a claim in 5 yrs and will loose £75 excess and my no claims bonus...or do you think it will be worth it?

If I claimed on the insurance would they cover the cost of fitting it too?

It really is up to you and depends on how much it would be to carpet it.

If you did , they would pay to fit it etc.
