Ideas for 'hen' party at home

I'm a mature second time rounder! not the type to go out for a hen party but looking forward to having a party at home for sisters, work colleagues and old girl friends etc. with food and wine. Just wondering whether anyone had ideas for making it a bit more fun - should I do anything for entertainment? Would welcome any ideas but not selling parties - I don't want my guests to feel they have to buy things!!!

How about a clothes swap... Get everyone to bring outfits they don't wear anymore to swap with someone else...

Or get everyone to bring their makeup bag and do each others makeup, like a grown-ups sleepover.
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

How about some kind of craft activity, making beaded bracelets or something?

how about a pamper session, you could all do beauty treatments, face masks etc. or you could try an get some mobile beauticians to come and do it professionally or even ask some students from a local beauty college for a cheaper option.

how about something like a pink and twinkly theme, 'dress' the house up and have the food and drink pink / twinkly too !

    Don't forget the diva/girly music too !

don't know if it's your cup of tea, but my cousin had a clairvoyant come to the house and do personal readings for anyone who wanted - cost each person nine pounds - for a 15-20 minute session - she was brill!

Have a Miss World competition with all of you dressing up in your finest gear or a bad taste party to see who can put together the worst outfit.

I am thinking of doing this - and I'm an early 20s first time round-er - not everyone wants to go out and get slaughtered and come home with a condom on your head.

How about a murder mystery party?!
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Its only free because you've paid for it.

Noone can have everything they want and the sooner you learn that the better.

  • Thank you all for such great suggestions! Nice to know I'm not the only one not up for going out and getting slaughtered just because I'm too old!!! But I do like a drink, just like to know I'm at home when I've had enough!!! Great suggestions - I have incorporated the 'pink' theme with pink invitations and asked everyone to bring a bottle of something pink whether alcoholic or not. The first friend who opened it said straightaway 'I must find something pink to wear'. My daughter in law does belly dancing and I've asked her to come along and give us a performance, which I'm sure will lead to everyone having a go and lots of fun. Perhaps other things will develop as we go along!!
