Balance transfers for a struggling student
Hi, I have returned to study as a mature student to train as a nurse in London and I'm currently almost 2 years through a 3 year course, and struggling. I do receive a bursary from the NHS, but at £500 a month it doesn't even quite cover my rent here. I am able to do some part time work, but due to the nature of the course…

My son has a student bank overdraft. He graduated a year ago. His account is about to default to an interest paying account. He has researched graduate accounts but is being given the runaround and told that he has to pay off his overdraft before they will give him a new interest free account. what advice can you give?

Bank Account for 3rd Year Uni Student
DS is trying to open a student bank account for his final year at uni, but is struggling as all banks he has asked only open them in year 1, expecting you to then stay with them. Can anyone help with details on which banks do open accounts for students who are in the later uni years? Thanks

I need ideas - extended funding failure
I'll try and keep this as simple as I can, but it won't be easy... I am on my final placement of my Social Work Masters. I received an NHS bursary which covered fees, 85% of my childcare costs and an allowance towards living costs. I also receive DLA LRC (but being migrated to PIP - had my assessment last month) and a…

Overpayment: 2008
Hello all, In 2008 I dropped out of my course in the first few months due to personal reasons. Following this I spent a good number of years unemployed (due to an injury to my foot), and it was a struggle. I moved around a lot (well, I stayed with friends/girlfriends) but was also resident at the house of my parents during…

Open university degree funding
Hi everyone. My son has recently decided that he doesn't want to go to university after all. Instead he wants to do a degree with the open university, living at home and working part-time to help support himself. Would he still be eligible for a student loan to cover the tuition fees? And does he apply for student finance…

Further Education Student Grants/Finance?
My 18 year old daughter (who has just completed A levels) is starting a college course in September. (Her A levels were not relevant to the degree course she was aiming for so she chose to study a specialised FE course instead.) The college is over 50 miles away so she will be in campus accommodation. We have a joint…

Hi I am 42 and went to uni in England as a mature student 2003-2006. I achieved BA(Hons) Degree in English Literature and Language. Unfortunately I had a breakdown just before completing my course. I had high enough marks that I was able to graduate and have my degree certificate and transcript. Originally I was planning…

Mature Student, Access to Uni Course Fees
This is my first thread on the forum, so apologies if I've chosen the wrong area or there are similar threads/post already. I'm enquiring for a friend. She enrolled on an access to Uni course at a local regional college. After the first couple of weeks she realised the teachers weren't that great and that the course was…

financial support for EU student intending to study A-levels?
I'm a nineteen-year-old blind student from Hungary hoping to start my A-levels at Truro College this coming September. I come from a single-parent family with no income whatever. As I found out yesterday, as a full time student I won't be entitled to any benefits when I arrive in England, so I'm desperately trying to find…

Student Finance overpayment.
I have lodged a complaint with student finance England regarding an overpayment from 2013/2014 and was wondering if anyone on here had dealt with similar. A initially applied for the parents learning allowance and childcare grant on top of student finance and was awarded just over £1k for the PLA but nothing for childcare.…

Money Moral Dilemma: Should my housemate's boyfriend pay towards our bills?
Here's this week's situation for you to cogitate on: Should my housemate's boyfriend pay towards our bills? I live with two other girls in a student house. One is hardly here most of the time and the other is here all the time. My issue is that her boyfriend is here every weekend, and longer, and he works from home when he…
