You'e just recieved £175k...
What do you do with it!? I'm incredibly fortunate to have inherited £175k, though obviously the circumstances are awful. I have NO idea where to start. Please give me all your views on how I should save/spend/invest the money. A few facts about me first: - I jointly own a house with a partner. We easily afford the mortgage…

Premium bonds, how likely is it the rate will be maintained ?
Premium bonds appear to offer the best savings rates ATM, but are there dates or events such as budgets after which they tend to change? I don't wish to put money in these and find the rate drops substantially as was the case when I 'invested' in my last NS product.

Margin maths not right
A test yourself question which doesn’t appear to add up? Tony has a margin account and wants to invest $200 in a bond with a face value of $200 and trading at $23. The broker’s initial margin requirement is 10% of market value. Q1. How many bonds can Tony buy allowing for margin requirement? Q2. What is Tony’s total…

Broker charges, locked in?
This seems to happen so much: I find a good broker, transfer my assets, they change their charges and I am locked in as it becomes too expensive to move. Recently, AJ Bell / YouInvest changed their charges and it seems too expensive to hold shares with them, compared with my other brokers. Does anybody know if there is a…

Do I take money from an ISA or my pension?
I've decided to give my garden a makeover. It's not going to be cheap! My question is, do I take the money I need out of my pension pot (as drawdown) or cash in a stocks and shares ISA? I took my tax free limit from my pension when I retired three years ago and haven't touched my pension pot since. The amount I would be…

Choosing funds on Hargreaves Lansdown
I've been investing in funds within a S&S ISA wrapper for a little over a decade. Until a couple of years ago, once or twice a year HL would send out a pamphlet comprising a completely comprehensive listing of all their funds (categorized into different sectors) with their performance in each of the last five years. I…

Bond equity correlation reversing?
I see the US treasury 10 year bond prices have been on a steady upward trend since last August. 4% up today. Is the correlation with equities flipping ? Today US futures seem unimpressed with the jobless figures, despite them coming in significantly lower than expected. A sign of a growing belief in a short term correction…

Ratings - Morningstar and Trustnet
Guys, How much attention do you pay to the ratings on these two sites? I'm taking them into consideration, but more from the perspective of a one star or something suggests caution and a 4-5 star is worthy of more detailed analysis. It doesn't play a huge role in my decision making, just curious what others think of them…

SMARTER CURRENT ACCOUNT BANKING - GOOD IDEA, PERHAPS, BUT WHERE IS IT?
Lloyds have a loss-leader (still!) and almost market-leading current account interest rate for a balance of £5,000. This is with their "Club" current account. The overall AER works out at 0.78% AER (0.60% on up to £4,000 plus 1.5% on a further £1,000). But no interest on anything above £5k. Virgin's deal works out at…

Are IFA fees reasonable?
Sorry if this has been discussed before. In the last few years, I have built up a fairly significant amount of cash (approx £400,000). I would like to invest approximately half of it. I am aware of, and comfortable with, the risks involved, and happy to invest for at least the next 10 years.. I have approx £180,000 in a…

I'm almost 23-years-old, living with my parents, and I'm looking to move out before I'm 26. hi guys, so just wondering what people's thoughts on this is. bank of england, along with other analysts, believe that 1st quarter the economy will shrink, but then from Q2 and rest of 2021 will be a rapid recovery. on top of this, many global investors now see the UK as very undervalued (and US now as overvalued). i am…
