New to investing - Building a portfolio
I have recently opened a Vanguard Stocks and Shares ISA and invested in the FTSE Global All Cap Index Fund. After much research it seems to be a good place to start my investing journey which I plan on doing for the next 10 years+ until I retire (maybe beyond!) and one I am pleased to see a very modest return so far in the…

Lodge an HMRC cheque?
Okay so bare with me. My partner got a cheque from HMRC for tax return, he cannot cash it into his bank account as he is minus £290. He lost his job in January of this year and then couldn't find another one because of coronavirus and lockdown and the bank just kept charging him overdraft fees even tho he explained to them…

iWeb or Halifax Sharedealing
Looking to move my S&S ISA to either iWeb or Halifax Sharedealing. As I understand it they are both owned by Halifax and run the same software. But iWeb is a bit cheaper. So does Halifax Sharedealing have any plus points over iWeb?

US Broker Firm
Hi all, hope you are well. I was hoping the MSE group would be able to help me with some advise. I am looking for a US Broker who holds US shares for a non domestic resident I.e. UK resident. I can not seem to find anyone reasonable to support my requirement given I am a UK resident. I do not want to actively trade on the…

Investing in Germany: what is wrong with this fund?
As per the subject: I chose Barings and am still at a loss to understand why it delivered such dire performance over the last three years (apart from a small position in Wirecard). Can anyone see something that I missed? Assuming I want to continue with Germany, are there any reasons to sell this holding and reinvest the…

Funds/Trackers For Long Term SIPP Investment
What are peoples opinions on good funds/trackers with a view to long term investing in a SIPP? I'm 32 and a teacher, so I have a very good DB pension already, but this cannot be accessed until probably 68 (yeah right!) without losing a lot of it to actuarial reduction, so I have set up a LISA and a SIPP to cover the gap…

Child Trust Fund maturing, what now?
My daughter turns 18 next month and her child trust is maturing, could someone advice us whats the best thing to do with the money now? I haven't added anything to it over the years so it just what the government added. Its in the Foresters stakeholder CTF and is worth £2375.38 so not a huge amount. My daughter doesn't…

ESG Investing
During this lockdown, it got me thinking of being more conscious of the environment and climate. Maybe I might be looking into this too much, but is it me or has the weather drastically changed in London over the past ten years? This got me thinking, I am getting older now, I need my savings to make me money. I was…

Open a Savings A/C for someone else's child that the child can access
Hi all, I want to open 3 savings accounts for my 3 teenage goddaughters, but I want 'them' to be able to manage the account, deposit & withdraw and for other adults/relatives to deposit into. I would like it to be APP based (on their phones) - I am getting conflicting results from various web searches, some saying I need…

Is everyone as slow as Halifax Share Dealing?
I have used Halifax Share Dealing for a while and find them just about acceptable. They are so slow at doing any deals though. It seems to take them a week to sell anything, a further day or two before you can ask for a cash transfer which then takes 3 days. Are all other platforms that slow?

Bank Transfer Sent To Wrong Person
Hi all, I am not sure if this is the right section so feel free to move it admin. I was owed £10K by an individual. He alleges he paid it back to me in May but it was to a different bank account. He supposedly received an email from me (I've checked on my phone and on a computer but no email was sent from my account on the…

Savings or Investments
I am intrigued as to why some people save and others invest. Savings rates are frequently discussed but many users regard this as pointless and advocate investing as the only sensible option for larger sums. I would be interested to hear your views on this.

My IFA is now restricted
Hi there I have invested in one S&S ISA through an IFA for over 10 years and last year he became restricted (aligned now with Quilter Investments whose IM fees are a bit high for me). If I wanted to add other fund managers outside of Quilter to my portfolio, is this something he could still do on my behalf (or is it…

iWeb S&S ISA Transaction charge
I noticed that in my iWeb general dealing account, if I buy with 10,000, a 5 will be deduce for the single transaction fee. You are effectively investing with 9,995. So I assume in S&S ISA is the same? Is there any way to let the 5 deduced from your general account when you invest in S&S ISA? I know 5 is not much...

Cumberland BS Interest Rate Reductions.
Got home to some letters today from the Cumberland BS. A bit gutted actually when I opened it as from September 1st they are halving the interest on their regular saver and First Home Saver from 2% to 1%. There are reductions on other accounts too although not as severe. This follows on from a 0.55% reduction just after…
