First Direct - Regular Saver Account - 2.75% AER/Gross p.a. fixed for 12 months
Hi, Could someone help me with this bit before I can open this account. Not sure if I am missing anything here. My calculation shows and on the website says the interest paid will be £53.63 on £3600 commitment on a £300 per month basis. Which is barely above inflation, I think. Am I missing something here, what's all the…

Advice needed
I worked for the NHS and joined the sports and social club where I saved £50 per month for a number of years . Having left this employment in 2005 ,I'd forgotten about my savings until recently when I found all my old pay slips showing deductions for said amount each month . After contacting the treasurer, I have been…

How can 1 American company gain $100billion in 1 day?
I don't really understand it. Apple's market cap just grew by 1 x HSBC in one single day. Or 4 x Tesco. Or 3% of the UK GDP. At what point will there be more sellers than buyers? Perhaps there will never be more sellers than buyers and Apple will be one of those companies that just grows forever and has more money than the…

Cancelling our Volatility with Buy and Hold?
With the economy suffering due to the pandemic shares prices are falling for many businesses. Looking at Lloyds, ITV and a few others. From what I've read on various investment websites it's looking like recovery is going to be a slow process. I've just bought 200 shares of Lloyds for £58 with the idea of buying and…

Best option? Long term CFD position vs other?
Hi All,I do some trading on the side, mainly FX and tech companies, I used 212 trading and do alright, I have been doing this for 4 years. I don't have the time to babysit and trade using my usual methods so I'm looking to build a single position to "relax" a bit. So, to be open, I have a CFD position on NIO (Chinese EV…

Investing via Bare Trust for 3 young relatives - best platform?
I posted a thread a while back because I want to invest over the next 13-17 years on behalf of three young relatives (aged 1-5 years). I wish to be able to control the investments (choose which funds), and for the funds to be accessible when they reach 18 - at which point, I will very possibly be pushing up the daisies.…

Regular saving for a grandson
I want to open an interest bearing account where I and one other person pay something in every month. The idea is to build up a pot of money to give to my grandson when he is 18 years old. He is currently one and a half years old. It will probably not remain in the same account for the whole time as I will want to switch…

Saving Inheritance
My daughter is about to get an inheritance from her grandparents. It has been left to her to help her buy her first house. Although she is over 18 it may be a few years yet so the amount needs to be kept safe. It is over the £85,000 safe limit per bank. Should she split it across a number of institutions to keep each one…

Property and corporate bond
My mother (not based in this country) thinks she's quite good at investment. She has an obsess with property. By lurking around this forum long enough, I understand that the obsession could be because that is an easy and only concept for some people to grasp. They feel safe. The corporate bond thing, well, a couple years…

Autumn Stock Market Crashes / Second wave
As a second Covid-19 wave in the Autumn/Winter looks very likely, I guess we can brace ourselves for another stock market crash. What's the best way to proactively preparing for it? I understand that the US stock markets have fully recovered from the last crash, and are at all times high (tech bubble?). However, in the UK…

Jupiter Income
Quite amused to get HL update today in the mail extolling the merits of Jupiter Income, which remains on their Wealth Shortlist. This has been a dog for years and has been and is now on the Sanlam Black list, underperforming even a mediocre index like the All Share. I used to have it in the glory years of William…

Unsolicited approach to sell SSE shares
Just off a phone call from a relative who has had approaches from Morgan-Kingston International Consultancy LLC of New York to sell his SSE shares at an inflated price. Has anyone heard of them? I have advised him to steer well clear. Their domain name http://morgan-kingstonintlconsultancyllc.com was registered on 23 July…

What to do when fixed rate ISAs come to end
My wife and I are both
73. We own our house and have no debts. We are in reasonable health
and anticipate living another 10 years before we need to think about
going into care. We have no children. We spend about two thirds of
our income. Most of our savings are in cash ISAs and bank accounts. Many of our fixed-rate
cash…

Jarvis X-O share dealing accounts now offer on-line cash withdrawals
After several months in development,* the Jarvis X-O accounts now allow cash withdrawals to be requested from the on-line system, so no longer any need to email cash withdrawal requests. Of course, a nominated bank account is required, but this should have been set-up in the original application. The withdrawal isn't…

NS&I Income Bonds Vs Premium Bonds ?
I have almost £30k in a Goldman Sachs Marcus account. Due to interest levels dropping, I want to move my money to either NS&I Income Bonds or Premium Bonds. Which would you recommend for maximising the amount of money I receive back (either as interest or from "winning" in the case of premium bonds)?
