Dripfeeding regular saver question
Looking for suggestions on how to maximise returns on drip feeding a regular savings account. I want to open 2x HSBC Regular Saver (self and spouse) - £250 per month (£3000 after 12 months) And, 2x First Direct Regular Saver (self and spouse) - £300 per month (£3600 after 12 months) Now, I read MSE’s guide on dripfeeding…

SAYE (save as you earn) and CGT
Hi have a 3 year SAYE company share scheme maturing in December. The current indicative value means I will make more than £32k profit at today's prices. What are my options to reduce my CGT liability? I have a spouse, if that helps. I found some old articles - going back to 2011 - that said I could transfer some share to a…

LifeTime ISA or not?
Assuming a long term goal and not withdrawing any money before age 50 is the Lifetime ISA the best way to maximize return on capital invested (assuming holding the same stocks and shares investments)? If the government gives £1,000 on every £4,000 invested that surely makes it better than a standard ISA (again not…

Share trading through joint account with spouse
Are there any benefits or negatives to share trading through a joint account with spouse? It seems that assets are shared 50:50 and taxation the same, so both CG allowances can be used I am not sure about FCSC as there is £170k limit for joint bank accounts, but no mention of this for investments? How would inheritance tax…

When MSE says 95% don't pay tax on savings.......
do they mean that 95% of the population don't have the amount of savings required to pay tax (eg £66k for basic-rate taxpayers), OR, that more than the 5% already have more tucked away in non tax paying accounts, eg ISAs or NS&I investments etc

Total charges on an investment
Due to new rules, a company I invest with, BMO Asset Management Limited, is now reporting all the charges made on investments. I was shocked to see that whilst the gross return was 9.35%, the net return was only 1.66% due to the various costs levied. These charges broke down as follows Ongoing costs = 1.41% service costs,…

Life time ISA question
Hi guys I'm thinking of opening a life time ISA and I know it's nearly at the end of the year and the new ones will be out soon is this the same as the normal ISA where the interest rate changes each year? And should I open it now or wait until the new ones come out on the 6th or 7th little bit confused, and if I did open…

Child's inheritance trust fund
Hi guys. Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place. My uncle sadly passed away at the end of last year. On his will he has left 40% of his estate to my 10 year old son. This is his total estate, including a house sale so fairly substantial. Our solicitors have told us this needs to go into trust until he is 18 and…

FCA Register Is Flawed
Here's one for you to have a good old laugh at (or at me _ I'm really happy that I cheer you all up). The FCA has temporarily removed 1,000+ companies from their register because of a flaw relating to international firms. Unregulated companies exploit a loophole that enables them to appear on the list as a legitimate firm…

Working out CGT on Investments
Ohhhh - up against the clock again. There's probably a simple answer but nothing about Capital Gains Tax seems simple. Having sold my house a few years ago, to look after my aging Mum, I put the proceeds into investment funds. I am now retired, and in drawdown on a small pension. I now need to sell some those investments…

Santander 123 v Premium Bonds
I am currently “funemployed” and am planning to do freelance work once I work out what type I want to do. In the meantime I have been living off the last few months wages that I eeked out as far as possible even before I left. I am now about to start hitting my savings....but would like to know which are ‘best’ to spend…

Transfer Cash ISA to S&S ISA?
Hi All First post so please go easy! As the title says, I currently have about £60K in a cash ISA paying 1.4% which I don't, and hopefully won't, need access to for at least 5 years. I'd like to leave between £5 and £10k here as a rainy day fund. Would it be sensible to transfer the remaining amount into something like a…

Withdrawing from Leeds Building Society
Leeds building society have a number of 2018 awards for best savings. I'm not really sure why since they have very punitive withdrawal terms on their bonds.- Withdrawals: No withdrawals are permitted until the day after maturity. Closure of the account is not permitted until the day after maturity

Darwell steps back
So later this year Alexander Darwell will stop managing Jupiter European. My guess is that Rory Powe at Man GLG Continental European Growth is breaking out the bubbly (and maybe putting in for a pay rise). As high conviction growth funds that are near the top of the performance tables, the two have much in common.

Lump Sum Investment Advice
Could anyone give me any advice on Investing around £160-£170,000 with fairly easy access? I may look for a property soon but not in the near future, so would like to have some access when needed. But other than that, a decent interest rate for a lump sum like this. Or would it be easier to split to get the best return? I…

NS&I Password Reset Problem.
Has anybody else had problems recently with trying to get their NS&I password reset after forgetting it? Yesterday I tried several times to do it and ended up being locked out. Best savings for elderly lady
Please could you give me advice about how best to deal with my mother's money. She's in her 90s but fully fit though I have an old style POA which means we can both manage her money though she deals with day to day stuff and has left savings up to me. She has the following in her 'nursing home fund': £5k in Lloyds current…
