Hello MSE Forum, Can you give me some advice. My fiancee and I are trying to save for our wedding in a couple of years. We have some money now to put away and we also want to set up a regular saver to save more! We have about 5k to save now and want to put away 100-200 a month in a regular saver. Money in EU: leave it or move to UK?
It's a bit of a long shot but I'm hoping someone here might know a bit about European banking. My wife has ~35k in Euros in the Netherlands (she's Dutch) due to a trust fund thinger maturing when she got to 30. In the Netherlands, any savings over approx. 21k euros gets taxed at 1.2%. The very highest savings accounts pay…

delisted shares removed from ISA
I had some shares in a shares ISA but the company was delisted and halifax had to take them out of my ISA - effectively making a forced withdrawl. Now that's used up some of my ISA allowance against my wishes. Is there any way i cna put the equivalent cash value back in? just doesn't seem fair otherwise.

Where to bank the "emergency pot" of cash
I have an instant access ISA which is maturing this month. I have historically held my "emergency fund" in here. Looking on this site and various others it seems current accounts are the way to go. As a 40% tax payer, is the Santander 123 the best bet for this with a net rate of 1.8%? I already have one set up so it's…

"Sacrificial" Current Account
I'm planning to do the rounds of the banks to secure the free switching money, but don't want to get rid of either of my two existing current accounts (Santender 123 and First Direct 1st Account). So, I would like to open a new account, move a couple of direct debits and a "seed" payment from my main account, before…

Tax on current account
I have just moved £18000 from my Halifax ISA to the Santander 123 account... Does the tax come out before the interest is paid or do I have to declare this to HMRC? Cheers

Where to invest £20k when all high interest accounts maxed?
Hi, I have £20k to invest. I already have all the high paying current accounts (123, club lloyds etc.) and am struggling to find somewhere for the money that isn't paying pittance. I may be wanting to buy a house in around 3 years but London is looking so unaffordable at present so am unsure on this. Still with this in…

Buying Euros to Sell Later
Could someone answer me a question that is causing some discussion at home. I'm happy to settle at the 'today' rate for £3000 of Euros, so buying £3k. In time when the rate falls will that £3000 worth of euros make money from selling back? It's clear a good time to perhaps buy euros for forthcoming holidays but I'm…

How is dividend income calculated for accumulation funds
I feel a bit dumb asking this, as I feel that I should know, but it appears to me that my dividend income isn't as much as it should be. From part (I have more funds and they look underpaid as well) of my annual tax voucher below, you can see that I held 197,506 units in a fund, the fund fact sheet it states that the…

Investment vehicle for capital only mortgage
I'm debating how best to pay off the capital of an interest only mortgage secured on a BTL basis, based on a 25 year mortgage period. A couple of options are: Option 1: Invest monthly into a Stocks & Shares ISA, do not pay down any mortgage capital. After 25 years, hopefully the capital in the ISA is more than enough to…

Active or passive global equities?
I recent joined a large company and started pension contributions, for which they have a number of funds available. Although I have read Tim Hales' book and been around these boards + monnevator newsletters for a few years, I've never invested before. Seeing as I'm only putting in about 30% of my pension fund (tax breaks…

Savings Interest
I was reading on the Gov website that you can get all your interest tax-free (if your taxable income is less than £15,600). I'm finding this difficult to understand. If the personal allowance is £10600, why are you then able to earn an extra £5000 tax free. I thought that you would start paying tax once your income exceeds…

Where to put proceeds from downsizing?
Hello everyone We'd welcome your advice. We are downsizing and will have about £150,000 to invest somewhere safe for the long term. We might need easy access to around £20,000 for improvements to new home but the rest is to contribute to early retirement and supplement our meagre pensions when the time comes. Also maybe 25…

Why did the markets go up so much?
Can someone explain to me the relationship between what party is in office and the effect that has on the markets? Just a brief overview would be great. As an investor I'm very happy with the turnout of the polls :jbut I don't really understand why the markets increased so dramatically.

Tax on investments
I've exhausted by ISA allowance for this year and want to carry on making equity investments. But I've never invested outside a SIPP or ISA before, so have no idea about what I have to declare or what paperwork is involved. I aim to take profits (if possible!) before I exceed the CGT allowance. Does this mean that I don't…
