I'm the Executor of a will - need advice on investing for a minor...
Afternoon all! Myself and my uncle are managing the estate of my late great aunt. She left a sum for my niece but stipulated that she not receive it until she's 25 (she's 12 now) I have scoured the internet until my brain aches and it seems we are not legally bound to make a trust (although obviously we can if we want…

Money from inheritance to transfer to/save for children
Good afternoon Apologies if this is incorrectly posted but I am new to the forum and keen for some advice. I was left an inheritance following the death of my grandparent (£12,000). As the cheque was in my name, the funds were credited to my own savings account. However, my plan was that the money would always be passed…

Harewood Property development and consultancy
I just wondered if anybody here has had any dealings with this company, or had heard anything about them ? My current 5 year bond is coming to and end on the 31st o this month and I've been looking around for somewhere to re-invest at least part of the money, but most of the accounts nowadays offer less than half the…

Any thoughts on this outfit?
http://www.avantiswealth.com/ I have to admit I feel extremely wary about it, some of which I can put a finger on ('owning' an airport parking space at the Land Registry) others just a general feeling of unease. And no it wasn't a cold call - I visited their stand at an exhibition

% salary split between cash and investments
Hi all, I know this is probably a difficult question to answer as its a matter of opinion and attitude to risk but i'm asking anyway :) I'm trying to figure out of my disposable income each month, how much should be saved as cash and how much should be invested. Initially i was thinking to split it 88% cash, 12% investment…

Alliance Private Equity LLP. Genuine ?
I have been contacted by phone by Steve Hansen from Alliance Private Equity LLP in the United States advising that they are acting on behalf of a client in the takeover of Pro-Active Solutions INC. They say I am the shareholder of 30,000 shares of the company and want me to sign either a notice of default to say I decline…

Invest or buy property?
I will be inheriting about £100,000 in the near future and need to decide whether 1. to invest this somehow to provide an income, or 2. to buy a property locally to rent out (there are suitable properties in my area, I have checked). I am self-employed at present and will be retiring in about 3 years so am looking to…

TD Direct vs Charles Stanley
I am starting to look at broker platforms for the first time. I have looked at few of them, and have seen that TD Direct and Charles Stanley seem to be the cheapest for my goals: (invest in funds, probably mainly Vanguard LifeStrategy). I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with any of these platforms and do you…

Thoughts on GSK
Afternoon all, I've had GSK on my watchlist for the last couple of months as a potential 'safe' investment into a large Blue Chip with a good yield. The price has completely dived though and seems to be going down further - in fact, it's now at pretty much its lowest ebb over the last 12 months, which I guess must mean…

Capital Gains Limit
I know the CGT limit is £11000 for this financial year, if I decide to sell some shares and for whatever the reason the gain is £11200 (example) will I need to declare this to HMRC? The firm answer is probably a yes but as it's a £200 over the limit, but is there any leeway before the HMRC slaps you with the sh*t stick?…

Mortgage or Pension / ISA
Morning, I don't have a deposit for a mortgage, nor do I have a pension. What should I make my priority, seeing as I am now 40. Live in London so buying a house seems like it will never happen, but no pensions look like they'd be worth much either in later life? Anyone else in same the same boat? Trying to make sure I am…

Finally Sensible ISA Advice
Latest article in Daily Mail (yes I know) finally realises most people don't have tens of thousands stashed in their ISA and crushes the repeated ISA mantra that you should never withdraw cash from your ISA as it loses tax free status. All they need to do now is to realise that an ISA doesn't give the best return. Will MSE…

Children's accounts
I see Halifax pays 6% for a year on upto £100 per month for children's accounts. The money then goes into a regular saver account that pays 3%. Is there anything to stop me opening another account at 6% after the year is up? And the following year? Or should I put the money into Zopa?
