Foresters Friendly Society
I have recently been given information on Foresters Friendly Society and told "Take out a product like an ISA with Foresters, or just become a member of the society for £25 a year, and you can get benefits such as a £220 grant for a student son, and grants for his dental and optician costs now he has turned 19". This…

Monthly Saver
First I'd just like to say Happy New Year 2014 to everyone. My resolution is to save money. Just before Christmas I went on my banks website to see what different types of savings accounts they offer. They range from an online saver, easy saver, monthly saver and more. So I made a coffee and began perusing. An online saver…

What's better - savings, overpay mortgage, increase pension contributions?
Hi guys I'd really appreciate your thoughts and advice... I earn a pretty good salary, but have vowed to be more frugal and thrifty in 2014. If I can manage to save an extra £200 per month, what would be the best thing to do with the freed-up money? Would it be better to overpay my mortgage? To save the money in an ISA? To…

I have a pension, OH doesn't - and we have three houses. We also have a mortgage on one of them, and owe about 6k still on the car. Now I…

Understanding the risks of Small Companies Funds
Just doing a bit of analysis of my funds and asset allocation and have realised that my allocation to IMA Small companies has swollen this year from around 4% to over 20%. Mainly due to additional purchases I might add, although they have also done very well with some funds up more than 40%. :j In addition to SC funds I…

How do I calculate the equivalent interest rate for a regular unit trust investment?
Hi All, Happy New Year! I've been feeding £50 per month now since 1/4/2007 into an Artemis Unit Trust. I know how much the fund is currently worth - £5,469.93 and how much I've paid in in total over the period - £3,750. Is there a tool or something so I can work out how much interest I'm effectively earning? I know I would…

Santander Strike Again
Just feeding my 5 Flexes with their minimum payments from one of my 123s and got to the 5th after about 40 seconds when I got the message that my account was now read only and to ring a number. Annoying, as I've been doing this every month OK. Having been through the rigmarole of a previous lock out after a large internal…

Can inheritance money be payed directly into a savings account?
The main point here is about skipping the current account. Is it possible for inheritance money to be payed, for example, directly into a premium bond account?
