Just closed a Halifax account - online
I had a couple of Online Saver accounts where the bonus had expired a few weeks back. Only a couple of quid left in them. Just noticed the option to close the accounts online has returned. Seemed to work quickly and easily. So tidied things up a little without needing a branch visit.

Is getting £3000 sent from a friend abroad taxable?
Hello to all the experts professional and amateur :) Long story short; I've given £2000 to a friend in Japan and intend to have £3000 back in two or three months. This is for his business so an investment of sorts. Not a percentage of assets or company value. Just a straight up cash injection. Question is how much I'll be…

For every £1 spent...
Hi, I'm perhaps a little off-topic here, but hopefully one of you could help... I'm studying for a masters in public health and i've got an assignment to do about healthy workplaces. Part of it is to do a hypothetical 'pitch' to a workplace (i.e. board of directors) about becoming a healthy workplace. One angle i'm trying…

I normally take the option of…

Quick Access for £300K
Morning all, I have been given a settlement of £300K and my intention is to buy a home in the next 12 months. I have spoken to an advisor who said that they couldn't really help as I want to spend it quickly and suggested putting it all in one quick access account as "the risk of anything happening now is quite low".…

Tesco Internet Saver - open a second account, but no bonus? (repost)
While there doesn't seem to be any restriction on opening an additional Tesco Inter Saver account (which I did recently, after checking with Tesco beforehand) the interest rate leaflet that arrived with my account paperwork says in small print:"Only one account per person is eligible for the bonus". The leaflet forms part…

Do Hargreaves Lansdown prepare tax statements?
Hi, I'm just trying to make preparations for next years self assessment and everything is pretty much covered apart from the shares. As I understand it, any income from dividends are taxed at the same rate as other income depending on what pay band I'm in, along with savings, but since I have set everything to…

First State Global Resources - Top up?
Hi all, Even after having my S&S for a few years now, I still class myself as a total newbie! I have decided to 'cream' some of the profits from Standard Life UK Smaller Cos as it hit >40%.
