I am very new to saving. Have managed to pay off debts. Just have my mortgage left which is approx £35,000 and ends in December 2017. I have put £5,000 in an ISA and have put £17,000 into premium bonds. I am hoping to start saving around £700 minimum per month now - can someone please advise where I should save this? My…

Rules of Engagement
Everything I have read has suggested you formulate some investment rules before you start then stick to them. My rules for £20K are below. What's yours? 1. Work out your asset ratio dependent on what your attitude to loss is, and how long you expect to be in the market, and how much cash you want as a back up. The ratio…

3-6 months salary untouched
Just curious to know how many people do follow this advice (assuming no debts to pay off other than the mortgage). I hear this recommendation over and over and over again but who takes any notice, particularly at a time when salaries are frozen and interest on savings is so poor. I currently have just short of 3 months…

What are the chances Santanders one year bond rates will drop further in short term?
Hi, I have 50k maturing soon and want to put it in one year bond with Santander at 1.75% but could earn over 3% up to middle of july with an old esaver that is due then to drop to 0.5% but would earn 1.25% new esaver issue 10. Just wondering should I transfer the 50k to the existing esaver and have over 40 days interest…

I have been paying £25 into a Invesco Perpetual Childrens ACC shares fund since my son was very young. He has now turned 18 and working, so I am going to transfer it into his name. On the transfer form it mentions SDRT (Stamp Duty Reserve Tax) and you have to declare by ticking two boxes that 1, the transfer is not for…

Guess The Equity
I receive junk mail share tips from Motley Fool and usually try and guess which equity they are tipping from the clues they give. I am a bit stuck on one of this mornings "recommendations": An Irish firm that enjoys a 37% market share in the UK The product is sold through all major supermarkets The firm has agreed to…

Index-linking + 0.15% a good deal?
I've got an investment maturing shortly and I've been offered re-investment (tax free) for 3 years with index-linking + 0.15%. Does this sound like a good rate? It doesn't sound that good to me but I suppose with the index-linking it's got to beat inflation. Not sure I want to tie money up for 3 years, I could use it to…

Advice needed!
I am completely baffled by all the options for savings so thought I'd ask advice on here.... I want to save £240 a month for the foreseeable future, what's best way to do that so I get best interest? There may be the occasional month I'm not able to put that amount away, but don't need to be able to access it immediately.

I am having problems in transferring both ISA's and OEIC's from one investment company/provider to another Whilst the ISA's have transferred in "reasonable" time - the OEIC's have taken a month (and counting...) 2.1% Easy Access - Can it be beaten?
I potentially have £50k to put into savings. I will only need to access the money on a single occasion to make a full withdrawl (closure) and would be willing to give 90 days notice of withdrawl/closing. The best I have found is 2.1% Postal Premier account with Tipton and Coseley Building Society. I qualify because I now…
