Advice/Direction needed for IOM administrators
Maybe I am off subject here but I have been around the boards looking for the best option. I am seeking advice on selection of an Isle of Man administrator company that I can move my small property holdings into. I already have them in a limited IOM company but I am just totally dissatisfied (that is quite a mild…

Terribly rude service in Halifax - withdrawing money
Hi there, Today I went to withdraw £900 at my local Halifax branch. I filled in a slip, had my provisional drivers license with me and of course my card. The woman was very blunt and when I showed the slip, seemed shifty then asked me "where did the money come from?" Surely she can't ask that!? How rude! I told her it came…

We are first-time buyers and want to be able to act quickly if the right property comes up, so fixed term…

Tax threshold DECREASED for 40% tax payers
Hi, I fall into this category whereby the interest accrued (annually) on from savings will just take me over £35,001 (my salary being approx £34k p/a) - the new threshold set in 05Apr11! If inflation is here to stay, which asset classes to buy and which to dump?
Commodities = Buy (as long as the £ doesn't weaken against the $)? Bonds and Gilts = Dump (unless they are floating rate on RPI or equivalent)? Housing = Possible either way (inflation may move prices up, but purse-string tightening may move them down)? Does that seem about right? What do others think will good buys/dumps?

Manchester Building Society Info & Depositor Guarantee?
I recently opened an account with the Manchester Building Society -- they have a 2.71% account going on there. :T Anyone know much about them? They employ systems that seem to have resurfaced from the 1970's: Deposits from only an account in your own name (No direct deposits from lawyers if you sold a house for example),…

How do you stay liquid without sinking?
Few savings accounts match inflation. The best seems to be First Direct's 8% monthly saver, but you can only save £3600 max. Lloyds Vantage offers 4% on up to £21000 with conditions. (Gross rates quoted.) I'm not a fan of fixed term bonds, partly because you risk missing out on higher rates in the future and partly because…
