12% to 0.1% interest rate drop in 12 months?
I'm just wondering if this would come close to a new world record as far as drops in savings account interest rates go? :j I took out a Halifax Regular Saver account in 2008 at 10% plus a bonus of 2%. I paid in £500 each month for a year & in 2009 it paid out a few hundred pounds interest. I kept paying £500 in to it every…

Hi all, This is slightly long so apologies in advance. I have had a huge problem with these fools Abbey Santander for the last 8 months. The problem should be resolved by next week but wanted advice on the rights I may have for compensation for the stress, inconvenience and time taken to resolve. In June 2009 I agreed to…

Saving up for a new home deposit - where to put your money?
Hi all, I've been looking at the available options for saving up for buying my first house. Its all a bit confusing to me. Basically I'll be starting from scratch and saving about £500 a month for 2 years. From what I see the 5% new home saver from santander looks like a good option although theres a £300 a month limit on…

Egg refuse to close off internet access to my closed accounts!
I have just closed a credit card account with Egg, and once that was all sorted I asked for internet access to the closed account to be removed so that no-one could log in to my account. This was for security reasons mainly as it seemed daft to have an account just sitting there when I was never going to use it again. Egg…

I'm 22 years old, what's my best option for saving/investing?
Hi all, I posted earlier and had a fantastic response, have been thinking about where I stand financially because I literally get my wage paid every month and have no worries, no bills other than utilities and already, I own my home outright simply through sheer determination and a willingness to stick to both my budget…

Halifax savings account interest rates
In online banking, the Halifax used to show you the interest rate for an account in the general information at the top. This information no longer appears. Does anyone know how to find out the interest rate of a particular account? I'm not asking for their current rates, these are for fixed rate savings accounts that were…

NS&I - Index-linked calculator screwed up again
Just like last month, NS&I have changed the date of the RPI announcement (again, to the wrong date) but failed to change any of the data. It took them two or three days to correct the data last month, and two or three weeks to correct the announcement date. I hope they calculate my returns more competently when I cash in!

Halifax Childrens Reg Saver - How many can a child have?
I was in a local Halifax Branch thismorning to ask this question i.e. can granny open one for grandchild, then grandad open a second one for same child (thereby being able to save £200 per month between them for the child rather than the max £100 in this type of account). I was told by two different members of staff that a…

The seven deadly sins of NS&I Premium Bonds
Good article in the Telegraph from MSE Martin pointing out how poor PB's really are. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/savings/7607815/The-seven-deadly-sins-of-NSandI-Premium-Bonds.html Given how so many people hold them, I thought it was worth another thread on the subject. BTW, Gordon Brown would like to…

I earn 10.25% interest, is this good?
Ladies/Gentlemen, I've been lending with Zopa for a little while now, not huge amounts of money as I was initially sceptical about the whole thing, so far though it's went really well and I'm pleased with the returns. I've now seriously started to think about closing my savings accout held with my bank, it pays an absolute…

Northern Rock - cashless branches?
Northern Rock apparently have two types of branches, those which accept cash transactions and those that don't. The two branches I have ever visited (Liverpool and Cambridge) do cash, but what do the non-cash branches look like? Are they even branches or just offices? And why have two types of branches - surely this is…

Santander First Home Saver - please confirm?!
To cut a long story short, I opened one of these accounts yesterday with a £5000 opening deposit. I have the following questions, but the branch advisor didn't have a clue and when I called the savings helpline I couldn't get through because I don't have a card registered to the account! So, if anyone can answer the…
