FSCS discussion
As I understand it, banks and building societies pay a proportion of their deposits into the FSCS to provide a fund to protect depositors in the event of a financial institution going bust. Do the percentages paid vary according to an institution's perceived risk of default? If not, this seems grossly unfair on those…

ISAs, investments and moving abroad
Hi all, I am thinking of leaving the UK in about a year's time and would like to clarify some things about my Stock ISA/ Investment accounts. From what I gathered: - I will be able to keep my ISA account but won't be able to contribute to it anymore after I leave. - Any capital gain after I leave will be taxed in the…

Interesting article in The Times today. http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/money/savings/article3340738.ece UK SAVERS investing in Icesave, the Icelandic internet-only bank, could face delays receiving compensation if it suddenly ran out of cash. Savers who use banks solely regulated by UK authorities will…

Can you pay less tax by setting up a offshore limited company for share trading?
I was wondering if this is possible if anyone has done it. At the moment when I take profits from one trade and put it into another trade I have to pay CGT. If I could trade over here but offshore this would prove an exponential benefit to myself, not having to pay tax on dividends or CGT my business could grow a lot…

Fixed rate - Notice Accounts
Hi, I'll soon be in a position to open two Fixed Rate A/cs with £35k in each. I'll have other A/cs for ISA and instant access. My question is to those that have been saving (in Fixed Rate A'cs) for some time. Initially I was tempted to open two a/cs with a fixed rate for 1 year, allowing me the option switching banks each…
