What tasks am I allowed to do?
If my role has been made redundant, can the company ask me to do anything related to the old role while i'm in consultation in the months after? I'm not going to be given my notice straight away.

"at risk" and the "suitable alternative role" doesn't seem suitable
I was told that my role is "at risk" due to downsizing and restructure last week and attended my first consultation with HR this week. I'm currently an IT manager and the "suitable alternative role" they want to apply for is some sort of customer liaison/performance type of role (no mention of technical abilities in the…

Info
Hi, I have been off on long term sick for 7 months and was resigned to probably not going back........... (Bare with me it will make sense) My local management have been quite happy to leave me alone to see if I could get my health sorted, (stress causing complications with my diabetes) , and the slightly higher manager…

Individual consultancy - reasonable timeframe?
Hi, My team were put at risk of redundancy yesterday. There are less than 20 people affected and there have been no others within the last 90 days, so we have been told there is no need for a collective consultation but that we will have individual consultations. From a quick look Gov.UK I understand there are no set rules…

Business closing
The company where my partner has worked for 27 years - incidentally without a contract of employment - has 2 locations. The location she works at is closing shortly. Even though we have known the company was closing this location, the actual date of closure was announced on Facebook and the owners have never actually given…

How important is your job description in consultation meetings?
As the handle suggest, I'm not completely new round here. Long story short, I have just had the proverbial 'tap on the shoulder'. In the meeting, and on the documentation I received, my job description was not defined correctly - strictly speaking it was half correct, let's say my role is 'head of x and y' (and this is…

Rise in Statutory Redundancy Cap
I see that the cap on statutory redundancy has rised from £464 (I think) per year to £475. Not a huge rise but it's better than nothing I suppose. I signed my settlement agreement late last year when the old figure was valid but I think that that's irrelevant and that we will get a revised amount based on £475. If someone…

Is tax payable on a financial inducement to apply for voluntary redundancy?
I have applied for voluntary redundancy. The package includes statutory redundancy pay, money in lieu of notice, payment for holidays not taken and an enhancement which is £50 for each redundancy week which in my case is £1500 as I have the max 30 weeks redundancy. The question is whether this enhancement should be taxed?…

Tax on the notice period for redundancy?
My wife is being made redundant (good news for us) and she has the tax free part of £3670. The thing we are trying to work out is how much tax she will pay on the eight weeks notice? They are letting her leave straight away but still paying 8 weeks notice. The first amount for a months pay is £1988 and the second amount to…
