Advice on giving ear drops to dog.
Apparently my dog has very hairy ears and this has caused a build up of wax and made her ear inflamed. I now find myself in the position of having to clean her ears every other day and twice a day putting ear drops in both ears and try to pluck some hair out of her ears . At first she was reasonably ok and would let…

My cat is over grooming herself.
Hi. I have made an appt for my cat at the vets for Monday morning, but am just wondering if i could get any info from you guys in the meantime. My cat seems to be constantly over grooming herself- licking herself pretty much ALL the time, apart from when asleep. Her food hasn't changed, neither has her food etc. As well as…

Nervous cat been to vet....the result
I posted about taking Lupin to the vet and whether or not to stay while blood was taken. For three days before, I gave her Zylkene and sprayed her basket with Feliway. I'm not sure which worked but she remained so much calmer..........and the vet didn't take blood either! The vet changed her meds from Famotidine to Zantac…

Still covered if not vaccinated?
I decided this year not to have Lupin's booster because of the health issues she has. She has been vaccinated for the previous 14 years of her life and doesn't go outside the garden. She is insured with Petplan. Will the insurance still be valid? I'm reluctant to phone and ask!

Chips/insurance - change of ownership/address
A bit complicated but will try to explain. All 6 cats are chipped with my details and insured with my details. 2 of them (2 girls) have been living with my daughter - not far enough from me to bother about changing the chip details (cost £15.00 each) or insurance details as still under the same vet. Now - my daughter is…

reassure me our cat will return?!
we rescued Maisie 3 weeks ago today & decided thay she was ready to go out for the first time today. Very scared at first, it took her about 15 minutes just to get outside. After another half hour she'd made it to the patio, looking back on us to check we were still there. An hour later, there's no sign of her :(

My cat is giving me mixed messages
He is 10 years old and will come for affection, by head butting, purring and rubbing his body along my leg, but once I bend down to stroke and show him affection, he ends up on his back trying to claw me. We know he doesn't like his tummy touched so we actively avoid this by sticking to his head, neck and back, but it…

Cat has taken to relieving herself on the lawn
Just wondered if there's any thoughts on this? One of our (elderly, 14 this year) cats has seemingly taken to pooping on the lawn. It's not a massive lawn and it seems to have started quite recently - or at least, she wasn't doing it last time the lawn was mown! There's now a patch of about 20 perfectly normal poops in the…

is 8 years old too old to get my cat spayed??
i doubt very much there's an age limit, but my girls are both house cats and tbh i never had any trouble with the older one but reading up on spaying I think it can prevent a few problems too?? So i think it's better I get her done, does any one have any expirence of having an older cat spayed? My 1yr old cat is off to be…

Walking the dog is difficult...
We rescued our, now 1 year old, Staffy x unknown (he is pretty much fully grown now, lean and muscly but 23kgs) end of Feb 12. Our previous Staffy pulled until the day he died, and he came with a half check (choke, whatever word you want to use) collar, which didnt really help, but he was more controllable at only 15kgs…

Axa Pet insurance - Lifetime?
I got a ragdoll kitten recently and it came with 4 weeks insurance from petplan. It's about to run out so I need to renew. From what I can see PetPlan and Axa are the top two to go with but while PetPlan says lifetime, Axa does not. Yet I see on these forums they are compared as being good as each other. PetPlan is a…

How and when to make the decision to have a cat put down?:(
I have 2 18 yr old cats. Up until about 6 months ago, they were both in great health, but in the last 6 months one of the them has gone downhill rapidly. He has high blood pressure, which has caused him to go blind (detatched retinas). He's being treated for that, and initially he regained a fair bit of sight, but then in…

Question re Pet Insurance
I moved in with my boyfriend recently and made the tough decision to leave my two British Shorthair's with my parents. It seemed mean to take them away from my parents cats and move them to s strange place. Also my boyfriend has a cat who I don't think would take well to two new male cats! Anyway, both boys are insured…

Black things in bin
They look like seeds or something but I am afraid they are some sort of larvae, they are quite big, bigger than a sesame seed and black. What can they be and how do I get rid? They are in the wheelie bin which has just been emptied yesterday ! I put normal household waste and also cat litter in that bin.

New cat slave as of today!-Update!
Well here she is! Meet splat! She started out exploring the place and trying to get behind the tv which I've now blocked off as best I can with an open show box, had a drink of water and a play and now as sleeping on the sofa! She hasn't yet eaten or used the litter tray but I'm sure she will when she's ready! She is the…

Kitten/cat food.
We have a new baby! He adopted us from the animal shelter on Tuesday. He's eleven weeks old and he's SO teeny (he makes Girl Cat look HUGE and I thought she was small!) He isn't a replacement for Boy Cat (for those who remember, he went missing in the middle of April) but he is very like him in his mannerisms. He's…

East facing Windowsill Fishtank
Hi, We have just moved house and the only place to put our 60l tank is on a big bay windowsill which is east facing. There are 2 potential issues: 1) there is a street light right outside and the curtain track is broken so I can't close the curtains/ protect them from bright light. does this matter or should I put some…
