Pension carry forward calculation
Hi, this is my first post so hello everyone :) I have put too much money into my pension this year and have a question about pension carry forward. By the end of this tax year (2020/2021) I will have contributed £33K pre tax relief. This includes personal and employer contributions. I'm at the higher rate of income tax in…

Could you review my plan?
Having been reading this forum for many years, leaning and enormous amount form those way more knowledgeable and experienced than me. And having seen many post their financial status and plans, requesting these be critiqued in a constructive manner. This has led me to step put and post mine in the hope that I can receive…

ADDITIONAL STATE PENSION TRANSFER TO WIDOW
How can it be right that there is a cap on the amount of additional pension that can be transferred to a widow. I am being penalised for my late husband and I having both paid SERPS. Had only one of us paid then, on the death of the other, the full amount would have been transferred. This seems like robbery to me. It is…

Teacher’s pension v BAE systems pension
Afternoon all, I am hoping some of you can tell me which, in your experiences, is probably a better pension. I have left HMPrison service and gained a teacher qualification and I have been in the teacher in the career pension scheme for the last 4 years. I am 58 and out of the blue, have been offered a position, on…

Has Covid changed your approach?
I am fortunate to have a pension pot that I do not need for comfortable day to day living because I have a defined benefit pension that is sufficient. It has been growing well, I’ve been content to leave it as a fall back in case I die before my husband (he has a lower pension income than me) and then to be passed on to…

Self assessment pension contributions - what figure to use?
I feel like this should be an easy one, but I'm struggling to find out by googling. When filling out my self assessment tax form, do I include the value of pension contributions that I've actually paid net of tax relief being added? Or do I include what I've paid + the tax relief? I'm a basic rate taxpayer so I can't claim…

IFA costs
I have an AVC of around £58,000. I am nearing retirement and my AVC company refuses to let me transfer without proven advice from an IFA. The problem is that the quotes I have range from £5,000 to £7500. This is a substantial portion of my hard earned AVC which would diminish its potential significantly. Are these…

My state pension showing as £190
Hello all, I just checked my state pension on the gov.uk site and it is showing as £190.16. The last time I checked it ( a long time ago) it was £175. Is that just a mistake? I thought £175 was the maximum.

Parents with no pension, I’m a higher earner
Hi, My parents are going into their retirement years soon with a large mortgage (over 100k) and a very small private pension (about a third of their mortgage amount). They will both receive a state pension. I’m a high earner (additional rate taxpayer) and expecting to pay off my mortgage in a couple of years (through…

Basic Rate limit Increased by Sipp Contributions
If as a self employed person I earn £55000 I would normally expect to pay 40% tax on the £5000 above my £12500 allowance and £37500 basic rate tax band. If I paid £5000 gross SIPP contributions would this mean all the tax owed would be at 20% because of an increase in my basic rate tax band of £5000? If so, is there a…

Pension withdrawal tool
I am looking for a good sipp pension withdrawal tool, where I can enter my sipp value and my age etc and it says how long my pot will last. I used to use one where you could alter the percentage returns etc and it would tell you how long before you run out of money. Does anyone know one, thanks

Compare Pension fund performance
Hi, I have a personal pension with Standard Life but I was considering moving it to a Vanguard SIPP as I was attracted by the low fees etc... However, before I make the jump, I'd obviously like to compare pension/fund performance to see if it makes sense. Do you know if there a website that I can use to compare…

Invest some redundancy into SIPP despite exceeding LTA??
I am about to start getting a pension of £48K per year as there were minimal penalties for taking early, and for now also have a salary of £90K. I have already exceeded the lifetime allowance for pension, and have IP16. I am adding to my work SIPP at the moment as the company gives 10% of salary as a benefit and then…
