Final Salary Scheme - what to do with friends advice.
I'm sorry if this is repetitive but I had a friend nagging me at the weekend about the above. She has recently transferred a £200k pension pot to Scottish Widows to look after on the advice of a financial advisor her brother knows. I am not sure if it was a F.S scheme or not. The reason she is nagging me is that she thinks…

Hi folks, I am trying to understand if I have made enough NI contributions in April and May this year to qualify for a full year of SP. I was working in April - leaving at 30th with a redundancy package that included an element of PILON on which I paid NI. I am not 100% sure what information I need to give here to help…

Choice of fund
Hi, My works pension is an Aviva stakeholder and I’m currently invested in the Aviva Invesco Global Equity fund. I’m 39 years old, is this a good choice of fund for my age or would I be better off with a tracker fund like the Aquila Blackrock 50/50 or something else again? Thanks

State pension forecast - will I get the headline figure from the state or is COPE deducted?
My husband and I are in our 50s and retirement planning. We have a spreadsheet. When we each look at our state pension forecasts the figure headline is the £168.60. Our actual to April 2019 is about £4 short of this per week. We have done 35 years and 36 years full contributions, some of this time we were contracted out.…

Strategy to cash in pension
My wife works for the NHS. She has a pension associated with this employment. She also has an old stakeholder pension fund amounting to about 10k. She cannot take this £10k as a lump sum as the total sum of her pensions including the NHS pension is greater than the threshold. Our plan then is to move the stakeholder…

Reasons to cash in a DB pension?
I am approaching 55 and one of my pensions will commencing paying at age 63. Depending on the transfer value, I am considering transferring that to a DC pension in order that I can have more control over the money. My rationale being as follows: 1. It isn't the largest portion of my pensions. 2. I would likely pay tax at…

Can a SIPP transfer be partial?
When a SIPP is transferred from one provider to another must this necessarily result in the closure of the account being transferred out, like a current account switch? Looking at a few SIPP transfer form examples confirms only that the transfer can be done in cash and/or in specie. There is no option to indicate whether…

Got a letter from pension scheme provider in friend's name
Hi all, I'm new to this site. I feel so rattled at the moment. Please.bare with me. :) I basically let a former housemate stay at my new flat for two days. SIPP Tax Relief
Hi I have a stupid question to which I'm sure the answer is 'you want to have your cake and eat it too?' but want to ask anyway just in case.. In order to claim the additional 20% tax relief available to a higher rate tax payer to be applied to a voluntary contribution to a SIPP, would I be right in assuming: You had to…

Opening a SIPP
Looking for advice for my 57 year old brother. He's always been a 'self employed' construction worker and so has never had an opportunity to save into a pension. He's about to receive a £10,000 inheritance and really needs to invest it for his old age! He also earns enough to regularly save. Would opening a SIPP be the…
