I am researching information on SIPP providers charges etc. I have checked out quite a few of the main players-BestInvest/Hargreaves etc. but am still a little confused by it all. Charges for this,no charge for that. I'm looking to deposit a moderate sum & drawdown on it to get me to state pension age. Any advice form…

NEST pension or personal pension?
Hello All I'm starting a new job in January :j They have a NEST pension scheme into which they contribute 4% of my salary. I think this is the state-run new pension thing? Is this a better bet than starting my own personal pension? Also, what proportion of earnings should I be looking to invest in it from my pay each…

Budget 2017 - LTA/AA cuts?
Well it's less than 24 hours to go before we know the outcome of the budget, and here's Henry Tapper speculating that the lifetime allowance and annual allowance could be 'trimmed': https://henrytapper.com/2017/11/19/how-will-the-chancellor-balance-the-pension-books/ He's not very flattering on the "soothsaying of pensions…

DB Transfer - Contacts Please
Have an outline plan to transfer a defered DB scheme out to a SIPP and am looking for contact ideas for IFAs who people have succesfully worked with for this please. We are both 58 and both have LGPS pensions and if we both left work now and defered these until 65 we would have £30K+ per annum, with 2 * SPs on top so am…

Do i take the pension early.
Its a interesting question I am in a final salary scheme and I am 55. My pension is currently £13,800 without deduction at 4.5 % a year and a 50K lump sum. I have just been made redundant although I am putting a lot of this money into my contracted out pension that I will take at 55. If I take my works pension at 56 I…

Workplace pension with Scottish Widows - options?
Good afternoon, I have a workplace pension with Scottish Widows - currently worth around £11000 and putting in (me + work combined) approx £7.5k per year now. I am 26. Currently this is in the Consensus series 2 fund, but I have been doing a fair bit of reading up on things and feel like at my age I should be in a…

Opening a SIPP when over 55
I'm over 55 and retired and think it might be worthwhile me opening a SIPP even although I can only contribute up to £3,600 gross per annum. Reading through the HL Key Features it says that on opening a SIPP you have to select a retirement age when you apply. If over 55 can you just select your current age, so you have the…

Hello All I've recently inherited quite a chunk of money and also ended finishing off paying the mortgage up in full...I also work full-time in the NHS and I'm linked into a pension with them...so I find myself suddenly, at 55, not spending all my salary just getting by. I've got an isa and will continue to use my isa…

Saving half your age towards a pension. Does this include workplace contributions?
There's a rule of thumb that says that you should save half your age as a percentage of your salary when saving in a pension. So, for example, if you start at age 30, you should save 15% of your salary each year until retirement age. My question is, does this rule of thumb include employer contributions? In the above…

IFA fees advice
I am looking to transfer my DB pension from my previous employer out and having done research / read the forums wonder if anyone could clarify a few points. I understand I will need a IFA but on contacting one to find the fees have been advised 3% with a 0.5% ongoing annual fee. Given by the time I meet an IFA I will have…

Transferring child benefit contributions
My husband is reaching retirement age (tomorrow!) and won't be getting the full state pension. We would like to transfer some of the contributions I got from receiving child benefit as I was working at the time so it won't affect my pension. I spoke to someone at DWP and they said I can't transfer them until I reach…

Tax planning for retirement
If I drawdown £10,000 from my Sipp in a year (which includes 25% tax free) have I used £7500 or £10,000 of my annual tax free allowance? If the answer is £10,000 does it make sense to start to siphon off the tax free cash into Isa's each year to reduce the tax burden in retirement? I am 55 and still working part time. I…

Taking the plunge(early retirement) & finding IFA advice confusing!
I posted almost a couple of years ago about wishes for the future and got some helpful advice on here about using an unexpected windfall. My OH and I have done some sums and agreed that if I retire early at 60 (with some conditions like having his dinner on the table etc:rotfl:) we can pay our bills on his salary. He is…

Spend the TFC or dip into drawdown

I'm only now trying to understand what I've been saving for all this time. I'm 49, hoping to retire at 55 and have very recently had a pension forecast from my employers…
