PIC pension losing value
i check my pensions every 1/4 and last week when I checked my with benefits pension with PIC it had lost around £9k since I last checked. Obviously thing go up and down, but does anyone know of any specific reasons for this loss? My IFA did a consolidation of various old pensions recently but advised leaving this one where…

Confused by contracted out COPE
Hi I am baffled by the State Pension forecast where it refers to the Contracted out Pension Equivalent (COPE) figure and how this will apply. I worked in the public sector for over 30 years and understood that I was contracted out, which would mean receiving a lower state pension. Having obtained a State Pension forecast…

Pension contribution limit in retirement year
I finally retired this year (early) and after this tax year, my pension contributions (SIPP) will be limited to the higher of either £2,880, or my earnings (I may do a small amount of part-time work). So in the current year I would like to maximise my pension contributions, as it will very likely be my last chance to take…

Hi all Got a quick question about the workplace pension scheme. I'm 51 and just got a part time job after been self employed for a number of years. I'm working three days a weeks and taking home around £800 a month which falls under the income tax threshold. My employer advised me not to bother with the work place pension…

SERPS - contracted out
Hello, I contracted out of SERPs in 1988 and my payments were made to a private scheme. The scheme was changed and I was contracted back into SERPs but left with a private plan which is 'frozen'. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to manage / invest that pot of money? Many thanks S

DC provider that allows Voluntary Scheme Pays
Due to an unexpected bonus, I have hit full pension Tapered Annual Allowance for 2017/18 and have already exceeded the £10k by a few £k. And thanks to sterling dropping on the referendum, and LTA reducing, I have also exceeded LTA by about £80k. I'm 55 mid March and may need my PCLS before April 5th (it's complicated!) so…

58 YO in Closed final salary scheme- should I take it?
I am in a final salary pension which I joined in 1993 to 2007 when it closed. I am currently contributing to an enhanced defined contribution scheme and intend to retire at 63, which is when my employer drops their pension contribution back down to 10%. It started at 20% and decreases over 15 years to 10% As far as I am…

Pension options
I contracted out of SERPS over 20 years ago and money was diverted into a pension plan with Barclays, who since passed it over to another company. I believe since 2016 we were all contracted back into SERPS again. This pension is now sat there essentially doing nothing and I wondered what my options would be with it?

Nest confusion
I have a Nest pension. My former employer was paying in but now I've left them I thought I might carry on and make my own contributions. I logged on and fiddled about with the calculator to see what sort of pension various contributions would get me and was very surprised. I set my retirement date for 30 years ahead with…

Pension calculator question
Hi Guys, I'd like to open a SIPP account asap. I'm currently trying to figure out which is the best broker to use via the broker compare tool on monevator. The plan is to put in 1k lump sum and then regularly contribute around £150-200pm for the next 25-30 years. Just wanting to check I've entered the figures correctly on…

Pensions untouched in the Budget
Knock me down with a feather. Just read the Budget text and the only change appears to be the uprating of LTA to £1,030,000, in line for CPI. Great news and a 'feel good' budget I think.

Widows Pension or similar
My Dad died in July this year. He was 82 . My Mum , also 82 has been left in the situation where her State Pension is only £290 a month. I have looked to see what she could claim as a Widow but appears that it is very confusing. Friends of hers have claimed something (they don’t know what it is and their children did it…

Ombudsman Feedback on Pension Transfer
Hi All, Following some rumblings with a pension transfer delay which lasted almost one year, I actually received a call from the Ombudsman's office today with information and advice. Final Salary Pension advice
As a 55 year old female with health issues I am considering transferring out of my final salary pension and have obtained a CETV of £300k. I have had a free initial meeting with an IFA who agrees that this is the best way forward, particularly as I also have a smaller final salary pension from a previous employer that…

Universities Superannuation Scheme
USS is the biggest private DB scheme in the country. For a dozen years and more I've thought that USS was in the soup. Now, after denials, half-denials, half-admissions, and half-arsed attempts to deal with the problems, it seems that there is to be a more radical attempt. It involves closing the DB section to further…

Local governmet pension forecast for early retirement after redundancy
I have received a pension forecast to claim my pension in January and the forecast if left until actual retirement age of 67. I am a bit confused because if I draw my pension in January next year, and multiply the annual amount by the number of years until age of 87 (evidently LGP advisor told me they work on 20 years of…
