Hi All. I'm terrible at maths so wanted to check what I'm doing. If someone has a deferred pension in the NHS, I understand that originally it was linked and grew with the RPI and since 2011 it's linked to CPI. Without contacting NHS Pensions and asking for an estimate of benefits, if I wanted to work out a pension that…

I may be in a position to pay a lump sum into my pension. I am a higher rate taxpayer. Would I get tax relief on the money at 20% or 40%? If the latter, is it automatic or do I need to claim it back?

Is it possible to transfer?
At present I pay contributions (£1500 / month gross) into a Scottish Widows Group Pension Plan (stakeholder I believe). The funds within the plan are the pens portfolio 2 & 3. I have no choice but to pay into this plan if I want to maximise contributions via salary sacrifice as this is a Company scheme. I don’t know if…

I wonder if anyone out there has any advice as I seem to be stuck in a catch 22 situation. With recent pension changes I contacted BA pensions, with whom I had a Final Salary/defined benefits pension from when I worked with them back in the 80's and which I had forgotten about. When they replied, one of my choices was to…

Old personal pension scheme
I took out a personal pension scheme in 1989 with Abbey life and kept making small monthly payments until about 1994. I understand they stopped taking on new customers in 2000. I still have over a year until the agreed retirement age of 50 but thought I would start looking into it. When the time comes will I still be able…

State pension payment
I am at a total loss to understand this. My partner qualifies for his state pension in September 2015. His birthday is on the 5th and the pension service said his first payment will be made on the 8th September. He queried this first payment date because he thought you were paid weekly in arrears. BTW he requested his…

Just wondering if any MSE'ers have used the services of Portal Financial Services http://www.portalfinancial.co.uk.
