Are these guarantees any good?
My husbands employers have been paying (on his behalf)a small sum into a Prudential (previously Scot Am) Indepension series 2 for many years. I've recently discovered the original paperwork for this and it has "2 guarantees, namely that the offer price will never fall and bonus will be at least 4% per annum" What does this…

Children's Stakeholder
For some time I have been contributing to each of my two daughters' Stakeholder Pension Funds. Each of the Funds is invested (£300 pm incl. £60 tax uplift) as to 50% in a UK tracker and 50% in a US tracker. The Fund for each daughter is now of a size (>£60k) when the charges, which are based on Fund size, are beginning to…

Planning for Retirement
Hello. I recently had a serious talk with my parents and am concerned about their retirement plans, or rather a complete lack of one. I don't think they are doing too bad financially but I am just worried about any risks that we are not aware of, or if there is a different and more efficient way of doing things. They are…

We are hoping to retire in around four years at 60/61, Is it worth paying AVC from her salary for the next four or five years? Will it make much of a difference and…

FRS17 and Liabilities
I understand under FRS17 rules, 'Contributions by scheme participants' are listed as a liability. This seems odd to me. By having employees contribute to a scheme, this increases the liabilities of the pension scheme? How? Employer contributions aren't included as a liability. I can see how employee contributions increase…

Any advice on cashing in pension
Hi was wondering if anyone could give me any advice re claiming a small pension under the age of 55. My pension company gave me a certificate of incapacity form to be signed by my gp. Quick Annuity Q on OMO
Hi Why do annuity application forms ask you where the funds are coming from, as in whether it is an OMO or transfer of funds. The only difference I can see between the 2 is that OMO is received by the annuity company net of Tax free cash & transfer of funds Gross. I'm just thinking surely the option is always OMO?

Standard Life Pension
Hi All I had a pension back in 2001 with my then employer, which I contributed to on a monthly basis, though only small amounts due to age and income. I have recently fished out the paperwork, as I left the company in 2004 and forgot all about it. I just rang Standard Life and they advised that the pot was currently worth…

Pension/ Jobseekers allowance
Hi, I wonder if someone would know the answer to this question: I hit 55 in about a month or so, and I've been told I can access my personal pension, I've been told I can take 25% as a lump sum, which works out about 10K. and the rest will be about £25 a month in pension payments, which may not sound much, but to me, it's…

Probate, joint ownership and IHT205
Hi I am hoping someone has experience of this: I am helping a friend whose partner has died. There was a will with everything being left to the surviving partner and no bequests.
