Ok, I'll try and keep this short. Basically my dad died suddenly in January. Mum is still trying to sort out his pension. The company has told her she is not allowed to take out a lump sum. She can either have an annual sum of money OR find another insurance company to invest it in. Mum has also been told when she dies the…

I think I opted out of SERPS. Is that bad..?
I was watching something on the news about pensions recently, and it reminded me of something that happened many years ago. Back around 1990 (I think) there was some big pension overhaul to do with (if I recall correctly, and I may have this all wrong) opting out of SERPS? Anyway, at the time I was advised to do this, and…

Company Pension Contributions
Hi, The company I run pays a small amount into my SIPP each month. This was originally done under a salary sacrifice arrangement a long time ago. I think it is about time that the company increases the contributions. However, I only receive a salary just above the Personal Allowance. Two questions:-* If a company makes…

Illustration of Early Retirement Benefits
My husband was in a company pension scheme from 1986 to 1990. The provider was Noble Lowndes (no longer exists as far as I can work out). We enquired with his previous employer about any benefits he may be entitled to as he turned 50 earlier this year. We had a reply from a company called Mercer but do not really…
