Company Pension Scheme Winding-Up (Do i lose protected rights element?)
Help please A few years ago I was the member of a company pension scheme. The company was bought out 4 or 5 years ago and the scheme is now being wound-up. One of the options offered is to "take my fund value as a winding up lump sum". I understand that 75% of the fund value is subject to my marginal rate of tax. The fund…

The commutation question

I will get a pension of £32,000 or I can have a reduced pension of approx £24,000 and a tax free lump sum of £160,000. I also have options to augment the pension by using the amount…

Stakeholder Pensions and the Stock Market
I have a Civil Service pension that will give me a small income in retirement, but now that I'm self-employed I decided I needed to take the plunge and supplement it with a private pension. To give you a bit of background, I have an absolute aversion to risk taking. I hate the idea of locking money away with the risk that…

A naive pension question
Having only ever been in Company pension schemes, I've been asked a question by my son (who at last is thinking about the future), that I cannot answer. I know that contributing into a pension scheme is tax advantageous ..... but how, mechanically, does the tax saving take place?

Best Interest rate on a SIPP
I am current with Sipponline and have been with some time. I have never got round to investing much of the money and a very tidy sum (circa £200k) is sitting there in cash which attracts only 4%.
