Total Pension Newbie, and Skint
I'm 24, my husband is 32, and we have recently signed off and started self employed work. We are earning so little that we can get the full rate of tax credits. We are below the threshold for compulsory NI contributions, so have a choice about paying them. I assumed that the 8 or 10 quid a month each it would be for NI is…

Taking pension early
I have just enquired about a pension with a former employer and have received a quote what I will get if I take pension early. It has two options and can either take lump sum and reduced pension or a full pension. I could leave it until I am 60 which is in another 4 years and would presumably get more. However this is a…

10 years ago I started a personal pension with HSBC bank. I paid into it for about 4 years until I joined the Fire Service. How to work out pension relief vs tax pay?
Hi A recent payrise has taken me into the higher rate tax band. I was trying to work out if it would be best to make AVC's that would take me down to the lower tax band. I like to understand the figures, so was trying to work out a) The tax I would pay on that money at 22% and 40% b) The relief that I would receive if I…

Finding a pensions TRANSFER specialist (CF24)
How do I find one? Even to deal with via email or post so does not have to be local. The FSA website does not stipulate if the people listed have CF24 qualification - neither does unbiased.co.uk - merely that they give pensions advice.

What's a reasonable time to wait for a reply?
We've had to write to the Trustees of the pension scheme that a deceased relative belonged to and as yet have not received a reply. What is a reasonable time for a reply to be forthcoming? We don't necessarily want to phone them up as the matter is abit delicate and therefore prefer all communication to be in writing.

Financial advice is for rich people.
A provocative statement? Perhaps. I just called up to find out about getting some pension advice from an IFA, there's only one listed on unbiased.co.uk within reachable distance of me that has someone with pension qualifications. I called them up, and am going in for an initial consultation in a couple of weeks. This will…
