Treating/stopping jeans from fading!
Ok so I got a new pair of jeans about December, in total they have been on full wash maybe 3 times and never at full heat i.e I put on synthetic wash, and other times just hand wash and put it on a rinse cycle. No matter what though the dye just pours off them, anything even my dark t shirts are soaked with the dye. Washed…

Fruit cake recipe
Please help me with a fruit cake recipe!! My mother in law passed away a couple of weeks ago. She used to make the most amazing fruit cakes, and when I asked for the recipe, she could never tell me as it was all by eye. Hers was a 10" cake, always lovely and moist with lots of sultanas and cherries. I have tried Mary…

Cleaning smoke damage
My tenant called me last night to say that she had had a fire in the kitchen. A pan of oil had caught fire and she threw water over it:eek::eek::eek: Eventually it transpired that, rather than the chip pan I imagined, it was a tiny, fried-egg-sized pan. Nevertheless, it did cause quite a bit of damage. The cooker hood is a…

Beeswax wraps?
I've done this as a separate thread. What experience do any of you have of these? I 've got a 15% discount - worthwhile if they are useful, but still a fair cost if they're not. Thanks!

Does anyone remember pasta pasties?
Not sure if this is the right forum but I think it would make an economical dish (unless they're figments of my fevered imagination). Does anyone remember, or have an idea how to make something I recall as an 'Italian-style' pasty? (it's probably never been anywhere near Italy, and maybe they were called Italian slices). I…

What staples do you always like to have in your cupboards and freezers so that you know you could create a meal at any given moment. For me I like to have: Cupboard Tuna…

Recipe help please - how much is a dash?
Hello I'm baking a fruitcake and the recipe calls for a dash of vanilla extract and a dash of brandy. Google tells me that a dash is 1/8 teaspoon but that doesn't seem enough. I'm thinking 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of brandy - what do you think? Thanks, MWC

HM mousse recipe - raw eggs?
I've been going through some old cookbooks and also my mums hand written cookbook, and they all contain recipes for chocolate mousse which involves melting chocolate and then off the heat beating in egg yolks. Then you separately whisk the whites before folding them in and refridgerating it. So the eggs are raw, but is…

Weekly Flylady Thread 5th March 2018
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also…

Fat Free Greek Style Yogurt
I have a 500g tub of Fat Free Greek Style yogurt needs using by Sunday. I usually mix it with fruit (tinned, fresh or frozen) for a quick dessert but not feeling the cold dessert thing this week. Any ideas of how I could use it? I hate wasting food :( Could I make a frozen yogurt? Not sure how I'd stop it just freezing…
