Humous
I thought I'd try making humous this weekend and searched the web for a recipe. I found a really amusing one (https://www.sfu.ca/cookbook/humus.htm) and it suggested using peanut butter instead of (or as well as) tahini paste. Does anyone else do this, or indeed have a trusty recipe they are willing to share?

Sprouting beans/seeds
Hi all, hope someone can advise please. I've put mung beans in one pot, black eye peas in another. They were soaked overnight and then today I have drained and rinsed them, put the foot from a clean pair of tights ( New actually but I was reluctant to admit to that on the OS site :D )and put them into the kitchen cupboard.…

Preserving/Kilner jars
Is there such a thing as a 0.6L jar? I can find 0.5L (too small), and apparently there are 0.75L (too big, and local shop also struggling to source). But I'm sure that somewhere I have seen a 0.6L jar - which is exactly what I need. Any ideas for online/nationwide suppliers I might try?

my greatest money saver re housekeeping was to buy a crcokpot. I kept reading about them in my american groups , everybody seems to have them --so I got one and googled recipies. Took a wee bit of willpower at first, but now I just need 7 items , either from tescos or the butcher --we live remote so only do the shop once a…

Saving electric
Our electric bill has gone up again and Hubby wants us to try and get it down. I know we are wasteful but wonder what you found to be the most effective. We already have double glazing and insulation,it was more to do with appliances and leaving things on standby. We dont own a tumble drier but own most other electric…

A meat/poultry question!
Which of the following do you do? a) Buy cheap meat/poultry from the supermarket. b) Buy free range/organic meat/poultry from the supermarket. c) Buy from a butcher? I'm trying to decide whether I'd be better off getting free range/organic meat and just not eating so much. Though I'm thinking I'd be better off just not…
