Car Bibles & Economy/Additives etc.
This is a good read on improving your economy and the ins and outs of fuel economy etc, changing your oil, how suspension works, tyre information, brakes etc. There's also a section on motorbikes. It's written by a chap called Chris Longhurst, he's now moved the USA, so the site's a little US orientated, but there's still…

Hand Brake Effectiveness for MOT
The hand brake on my car has never been brilliant and the MOT is due in a few weeks so I thought I'd better sort it out. I adjusted the hand brake at the weekend and although there has been some improvement it sitll wont hold on a steep hill. Can anyone tell me what the required hand brake effectiveness is to pass the MOT?

NCP Car Parking Charges
Hi everyone! This is my first time post here, so I hope this is the best place for this question. In my city (Cardiff) NCP have the monopoly on multi-storey car parks in the city centre. This has not been a problem until recently when they increased their charges and removed all the signs that show their car parking…

Driving Standards Agency
I got a letter on saturday saying the following, hope it might apply to a few of you too. I am writing to you because I believe that you may be rntitled to a partial refund of a driving test fee. For many years we have charged a higher fee for practical driving tests taken on saturdays than for those conducted during…

Insurance or lessons?
I'm learning to drive now, about 4 years late, and I'm looking into the tedious world of car insurance for the first time, specifically as a named driver with a provisional licence. It's turning out to be quite expensive to do this, even just for the 3 months I should need it. Would I be better off just paying for more…

Fiat Multipla, common issues?
I am looking to buy a Fiat Multipla next week. I've not owned a Fiat before and was wondering if anyone knew of somewhere I could download a checklist of common issues. I know Parkers . co . uk do these but they are £4.99 and I don't want to pay for something which I am sure I can get elsewhere for free. I've been trawling…

Tyres?
Sorry, this is probably quite a dumb question! How do I go about finding out which are the most suitable tyres for my car? I know the sizes etc but there are so many makes out there. Are there any that are best to avoid? Are the budget options worth it? I have actually needed to replace tyres in the past, but in those days…

Car Rental question
Hi, a friend of mine had decided to sell he's car and then rent one over 3 years. He ordered it 7 weeks ago and was told to expect a wait of around 12 weeks. So far he has paid £100 admin fee and a furthur £298 for another admin fee. He was made redundant on Friday so obviously this is a luxury that he cannot afford, when…

RAC Family cover
my rac is due to renewal soon and so is my parents. I no longer live with them but would we still qualify for family cover? Family cover is said to 'Covers you and up to four named members of your household as a driver or passenger in any vehicle'. Would they ever know that I don't live with them anymore? I do occasionally…

Which Non-Manufacturer Car Mechanical Warranty?
It's a minefield as you would expect - different levels of cover depending on various criteria, and I'm finding that the smalll print is really really small but I'm slowly picking up items that you would think are covered but which are not. For example not all policies cover worn items or items damaged by a worn item, for…

New(ish) Car Prices
I've recently been trying to get a deal on a car - any I've looked at are a couple of months old and ex-demo models. I'm a cash buyer and the cars are in the £21-22k bracket. Most will not budge on the price even though I can pay cash and the most discount I've been offered is £500. Even trying to get mats and flaps thrown…

Target Reached 70mpg!
I have reached my target – my combined fuel economy has reached 70mpg (in my Citroen C3 1.4 Hdi). I did this by adding Dipetane fuel additive (bought on ebay) to my diesel. When I use this more it apparently cleans the system and becomes more effective increasing mpg. With the average fuel economy combined mpg for all UK…

Cracked Windscreen (complicated case) - Help?
This ain't a straightforward cracked windscreen case, so I've got to weave a bit of a story to give you all some background. Three weeks ago I purchased a secondhand car of a private individual. The car was perfect and so far I'm happy with it. Whilst looking around the car, the previous owner mentioned that he had a new…
