Solicitor Before Making an Offer?
Hello. We have just got an AIP from Halifax to buy our first home. So we are planning to start viewing properties. My question is, in peoples experience, should we sort a solicitor out before we make an offer or once an offer is accepted and we start the mortgage application? Looking on Google, various sites state before…

Fixed Deal...Your thoughts on 2/3 fix or 4/5 fix
Hi, My deal is not due to run out until the end of the year - but what are most peoples thoughts on terms....? I am LTV of 70/75% and I'm contemplating fixing for 5 years, the only draw back being I can not drop LTV bands after 2/3 year fix deals as I am trapped in a 5 year deal. Will one balance the other do you reckon?…

Endowment maturing soon, should I surrender?
Hi all I'm after some advice regarding our endowment which is due to mature in June later this year.... Same as most in our situation were promised enough to buy a yacht with the leftover funds way back in 1993! We've accepted that was bull and moved on from there, but the potential swing between high and low projected…

Negative Equity Loan Seeker
Dear MSE/Anyone sensible, I was interested in M&S's 2.8% £7500 loan to bridge the gap in my property's negative equity. Obviously, I can't get a mortgage lender to give me a new deal because my property is worth less than my remaining balance. I'm stuck on a 4.54% variable mortgage rate. With the £7500 2.8% loan I could…

3-yr or 5-yr fix remortgage
Hi, I'm torn between a 3-yr fix and a 5-yr fix rate with Barclays. LTV <60%. Both have 3% ERC and both are 1.79%. The 5-yr fix has a product fee of £999. I don't have plans to move but then you never know... I'm afraid of rate increases and 5-yr fix at 1.79% sounds appealing. Thoughts?

A bit worried about rate rises.
Everyone expects another 0.25% rise soon because of the inflation and rise of 1-2% by 2022. I am starting to worry. I know we can afford the mortgage even if the rate rase but what if rases more than predicted? Am I the only one who feels unsafe. Btw we are waiting to exchange contract for our first property. A house with…

Remortgage advice
We're moving in approximately 6 months - relocating due to work, so there is no negotiation here. We're selling our current house, and hopefully buying in our new location. Our mortgage has 23 years remaining, and we are coming to the end of our fixed rate (1.74%) period and don't want to drop onto SVR at 4.74%. My worry…

My question is "why?". This doesn't make much sense to me. When I prompted them for more…

When does a help to buy isa become not worthwhile?
I've never owned a property before and am looking towards changing that at some point in the next year or two. Assuming by the time I take the plunge I have enough money to be able to afford a place outright (nothing special, low 100k range; I have a pretty good job and my pension fund lets me take out a large lump sum for…
