Nationwide advise
Hi All, We are currently a nationwide mortgage customer wanting to move and increase our borrowings. We have sold our house and had an offer expected on a new place. After reading a few threads on here I’m now in a bit of a panic!! I originally thought it would be strait forward as we are porting and an existing customer…

Financing a loft conversion
I'm hoping for some advice on the best approach to organising finance for a loft conversion. We have just purchased a new build property in Hertfordshire and plan to extend into the loft. The approximate cost will be £20-25k. We have a 2 yr fixed repayment mortgage until March 2018. We'd like to complete the work prior to…

Getting a joint mortgage
I'm looking to buy a property at 180k with an elderly relative and between us we have £60,000 deposit. She is over 70. We both already own homes so can put up the necessary collateral. How difficult would it be for us to get a mortage together ? Her pension is about 2k a month, I'm on 3k a month. Any feedback is welcome.

My solicitors not on Virgin panel
So discovered this on Friday afternoon, the solicitors had not updated their paperwork but they have known for three weeks we are using Virgin. They were on Friday up dating their paperwork late Friday. The mortgage company said it will delay their offer. Any thoughts on how long? Virgin said I can always change solicitors…

I am looking at a 10 year fixed rate. a ten year fix with first…

Is this the best thing to do?
Me and my partner are after a house this year, we both was going to open a help to buy isa this month march each, putting £1200 in each then a further £200 in each account each month until hopefully our deposit is saved in july (estimate) which should give us £4400 i think which in total would be £1100 in government money…

Buy-to-let &/or First Time Buyer queries
Hi, if I get a Buy-to-let mortgage and rent out a property for say 2 years and then sell it, would I still be eligible for a first time buyer mortgage (and ISA benefits), when I buy a first house for myself, or is that ship sailed? Thanks

Choosing a mortgage - Help to Buy
Hi, I have a couple of questions. 1) Are there any potential future issues to be aware of when getting a mortgage on Help to Buy (equity loan)? I've read that it might be difficult to remortgage after the fixed term. Is this true? Once the equity loan has been paid back, will we be in the same boat as everyone else when it…

Cheapest/Quickest way to pay mortgage
Evening I have £57000 left on my mortgage with Britannia and about 23 years 7 months remaining. I have recently fixed it at 2.64% for five years. This leaves me with about £271 being paid a month. I can overpay by at least £800 a month and want this gone in 5 or less years. Britannia only allow 10% of the previous years…

Mortgage Question (prob naive for you guys)
All, We have a mortgage on our home which is at a decent 2.5% rate with Nationwide. This is tied to the base rate unlike the svr which I think is around 3.99% with them. I was originally looking round thinking we could get cheaper (I thought we were on the svr till I checked) but from what I've seen we'll make a minimal…

Zoopla
Hi, I was wondering, in reality, do many surveyors use the Zoopla 'estimated value' in the calculation of their valuation? I noticed today that the estimated value of the house we are selling has gone up by 4K since the surveyor came round on Thursday. So I reaaaallly hope he didn't use it...

Life time mortgage
Our main home value of £375k with a mortgage of £93k. We have second property value £180k which is mortgage free. We are looking to borrow circa £60k for home improvements on our main home but age (both nearing 60) is making mortgage repayments steep and possibly at the limit of affordability. Is it possible to get a life…

To fee or not to fee
Hello I'm sat here with a beer trying to work out what is the best value between two 5yr remortgage deals from hsbc. The first at 2.18% with a fee of £999 and repayments of £351.46. The other at 2.38% with no fee and repayments of £357.38. The difference in monthly repayments is £5.92. Times this by 12 then by 5 gives you…

Switch and fix mortgage deals
Hi all, Just wanted to ask people's opinion on this feature of some variable rate mortgages. Is there a disadvantage of going for a tracker if i could switch to fixed at any point? In other words, stay on the tracker until it starts to look less favourable than fixed if indeed that would even happen. I guess if BOE rates…

2nd mortgage advice
I've recently separated and we have a £250k house with £160k mortgage. I'll be leaving this going with my ex so our children can live there with them during the week and I'll be paying half towards mortgage and bills like I always have done (around £1200 per month). When I went to get that mortgage 3 years ago, the bank…

How long do the 'last 3 months bank statements' last?
Hello, We're hoping to apply for a mortgage in the not too distant future and to speed things up I was going to order my last 3 months bank statements as I've read that some lenders don't accept printed/downloaded copies from internet banking. As an example if my last statement ended 26th February, how long would that give…
