Halifax and indentification
Myself and my husband are currently applying for a Halifax mortgage and, for complicated reasons, I don't have my driving licence so the only ID I have is my passport. However, this is in my maiden name so I supplied my marriage certificate to show change of name. But the broker is saying Halifax won't accept this and…

Unexpected Refund from Northern Rock/NRAM - slightly suspicious!
I redeemed my Northern Rock mortgage some years ago now but I've had a letter through this morning enclosing a cheque. Now I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth but I can't help feeling really suspicious about this. No bank I've ever dealt with has voluntarily sent customers cheques for errors - I mean just look at…

Anyway, the point is, when do I apply? Do I wait until mine sells etc or do I apply now based on what i plan to pay/expect to sell for etc?

Stick with First Direct?
I'm in a pretty good position, mortgage-wise. I got a First Direct offset (remortgaging) back at the end of 2007 on the flat I live in. Worked out perfectly for me as I was about to inherit a bit of a lump sum that would see most of my capital repaid/offset. I'm now in a new situation with wanting to buy a place to live in…

Deed of Trust question - amount needs to change
Hi, I purchased a house with my partner, and we registered a Deed of Trust at the time, which specified what percentage of the house each of us owned, and how much he should receive back after the mortgage had been paid off, before any other proceeds were split. We are now remortgaging, and we therefore need to alter the…

Fixed Rate coming to an end :(
Hi Guys, wondering if anyone could help me. In 2007 with help of my parents I bought a house for £220k (£70k deposit, £150k mortgage). The plan was for me to live in it and do it up and then sell it and then this "recession" happened and although it's in a good location, I would make a loss if I sell the house now. For the…
