Hi, Can you remortgage for things other than your 'doing up 'own house e.g. to help do up someone elses house? If I have a £60k mortgage and its worth about £130-150 in current climate do you think I'd struggle to get a £25k remortgage?

Staying on the bank's variable rate for the next 23 years?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but this area isn't my forte really. Basically we have just dropped onto the banks variable rate which always tracks at 2.0% above the Bank of England Base Rate (Nationwide) Now I see fixed rate deals for 5 yrs+ are quite high in comparison to this rate (we have a 200k valued house and owe…

Solicitor required for remortgage?
I hope someone can help me. I am taking out a mortgage on a property I own outright and the building society form asks for the solicitor or legal conveyancer but surely I don't need one as there is no sale taking place. I expect this is just an error on the part of the building society but could someone confirm?

Don't want buy to let mortgage
I recently relocated 400 miles to start a new job. My problem is that I can't sell my house so I've had to rent it out. I have foolishly informed my mortgage lender of my change of correspondence address and they have now written to me telling me that I need to go onto a buy to let mortgage if I rent my house out. I only…

Postponing mortgage repayment.
I have an interest only tracker endowment mortgage which is just 3 months away from the end of its 25 year term. As the rate I pay is now only 1.5% I'd quite like to keep it going for as long as interest rates remain low, and the endowment policy money could be reinvested in say corporate bond funds to yield better than…

I'm a FTB with a 85% LTV I am going to go for the Abbey over a 35yr term but not sure whether to choose the 2yr or 3yr fix. The rates for both are 5.84% which isn't bad for a FTB, monthly repayments are £471.62 on a £98,000 (£14,700 deposit) house which suit us fine. But should we go for a 2yr fix or 3yr? Also for the…
