Going temporarily interest only
Hi. I need to remortgage to raise some cash for an extension. It is important to keep the monthly payments as low as possible for at least the next year so I was wondering about taking a short interest only deal like the variable offset from First Direct currently at 3.49%. There is no tie in so when the wife starts…

Any disadvantage in increasing mortgage term if overpaying anyway?
Just about to remortgage onto a fixed 5 year deal (Britannia 4.89%). Current mortgage has 22 years to run, so I could just remortgage at that term. However, I am planning to overpay as much as possible each month, so I was wondering if there were any downsides to just sticking the term at 25 years. My reasoning being that…

Hi all I've read through a lot of posts on here, but obviously they are very subjective to the people asking about their situations. I'd very much appreciated anyones' suggestions for my questions. 4 years ago I bought a 3 bed flat in NW London for £225,000, borrowing £200k and providing the rest as deposit. I'm now near…

Underhand Tactics by Mortgage Companies
I recently applied to the Nationwide for a mortgage on a new build property. All was well until it came to the valuation. The surveyor commented (before inspecting the property) that he had been instructed by the Nationwide to undervalue the property. Now I know that valuations can vary, but he came back with a figure of…

Best Tracker deals right now?
I have 178,000 mortgage and an offer from Halifax to go on Tracker (no collar) of 2.19 above base rate for 3 years - cost is £999. It doesn't seem that good to me, but broker can't get any better deals. This may be crystal ball gazing territory but do you think any better deals will emerge in next few months?

Nationwide mortgage - fixed term ending
My partner and I are coming to the end of a 2 year fixed deal with Nationwide (5.48%). It finishes in April 2009 and I’m guessing that our LTV at that point will be just over 75% which means that there aren’t many attractive deals available to us. Am I right in thinking that we’ll automatically go onto Nationwide’s base…

Re-mortgageing error by Halifax??
Hi, I re-mortgaged with the Halifax last April when I decided to consolidate a loan for nearly £6000 that my wife had with the Halifax and increase my mortgage repayments with the "spare cash" she was left with in order to reduce the overall length of terms of the mortgage. Great idea in pricipal, as I asked for (and got)…
