Best Tracker deals right now?

I have 178,000 mortgage and an offer from Halifax to go on Tracker (no collar) of 2.19 above base rate for 3 years - cost is £999.

It doesn't seem that good to me, but broker can't get any better deals.

This may be crystal ball gazing territory but do you think any better deals will emerge in next few months?

  • Is the Tracker linked to the Bank of England Base Rate?

The Guardian have a helpful table. If you click on 'personal quote' it will calculate the monthly cost:

First Direct and HSBC have been best in recent weeks, though FD wait is around 10 weeks I think.

Going onto the SVR may well be the best option for the short term with some lenders. Then getting a decent fixed rate in the Spring before rates start to rise again in 10-12 months time.
