Fixed Rate: My time's running out
Okay - who's got the brains for a tricky, real-life moneysaving challenge? In brief, in 7 months time our 'two year fixed rate' runs out. We borrowed £120,000 on a 100% mortgage (remember those?!), at 5.95% from C&G. We will have prob. paid off about £5k by June, when it ends. By my calculations that's 95.83% left to pay…

Northern Rock cut a scandalous 0.15% from Nov 1st
The very government owned bank that made an emergency cut in interest rates of 0.5% has said it will cut its' SVR by 0.15% ! That's really kicking the most hard up sector in the whole mortgage market. The rate will "fall" to 7.34%. An absolute discrace. Regards

Is there a market for my "not with profits" Endowments?
I've been investigating whether I can sell my 2 endowments, and after a couple of calls is seems that there is no market for plans that are not "with profits". Is that right, or do I just need to find a company that is interested in these types of plan? Thanks, Jon

Offset question. Multiple current accounts offset against same mortgage?
Hi all, Been pondering an offset account, but the missus and I keep our day to day finances separate, with joint savings. Do offset mortgages allow you to have more than one "current account" offset against the same mortgage? I know in reality all the money is in the same pot but it would simplify matters a great deal if…

Petitioning the Government to help people as well as banks
Hi everybody. Instead of posting competitions today I thought I'd post something I found on digg that I think is particularly interesting: Mortgage Petition Link: http://www.mortgages.co.uk/petitions/bail-out-people-not-only-banks.asp The basic idea is that instead of just helping the banks, where the fat cats are at, the…

Nationwide set our mortgage up WRONG!!!
Hi guys, I hope you can help. We've recently moved and had to borrow more money to get a bigger house. We had a mortgage that was a 10 year fixed @ 5.18% which was down to £64,000 as we had made £21,000 overpayments. We asked nationwide to get our overpayments back so we could use this money to do the new property up. So…

Thinking of moving my mortgage to RBS one account, any advice?
Hi I am thinking of moving my mortgage to the RBS one account, primarily to try and pay my mortage off sooner by having our salaries, small savings paid into this account. I like the facility of seeing how much I can reduce my mortgage term by and this will hopefully give me the incentive to try and pay off as much as I…

First Direct Offset query
I have a question. I currently have a 5 year fixed rate mortgage with FD (5.29%), at the same time I asked for some extra borrowing which I have not used yet, but it's in an extra borrowing account and I can draw on it whenever I want. This is also at the same 5.29% rate. So I have my mortgage (£75k) and the extra…
