I'm a novice
I have never had a mortgage, and I am 54 years old. I have arounf £30,000 to spare on a deposit, and I earn £20,200 pa. The Halifax phone service is a waste of time (I have an account with them!) - they did not answer my question. Does anybody know whether I can get a mortgage at my age, or a place to get advice? Ed

offset mortgage
We have quite a high mortgage £80,000 and a offset loan of £39,000. We at the moment pay £850 a month. Which we have been told is not enough at the moment, but we are struggling with money at the moment so the bank has said we can leave it as is until ok. The interest per month is £500-£550 a month. When does the mortgage…

Compensation Question
I complained and won my claim to the FSA about a policy missold by my IFA. When I complained direct they ignored me. They now have 4 weeks to reply with their offer of compensation. My question is how this is calculated given that I expect my IFA to attempt to minimise their liability. I understand the basics in that they…

Endownment Claims, How Long???
Hi, We have had our endownment since 1996, we have felt for a long time now, that we were mis-sold it, but being 1st time buyers, and being told "you can pay your mortgage off early, or have a tidy little nest egg over after paying for 25yrs, we were smitten, up until we had our 1st re-projection letter, saying we were…

Sealing - Deeds Release Fee - A&L - WARNING
A word of waring over a sharp practice... I signed up to A&L on a 2yr discount with a redemtion penalty during this period. When I signed up the fee to end the mortgage (sealing and deeds release) was (a fairly extortionate) £160. Whilst I was locked in this fee was raised by about 90% to £295. The obvious explination for…

Getting mortgage with a contract-based job
I am working as a Research Assistant in a respectable London college, and my contract is renewed on an annual basis. The pay is decent, but I'm worried that the contract issue may cause some problems when applying for a mortgage. Has anyone here been in a similar situation, and what was the outcome? TIA.

Remortaging for better deal
Can anyone help, I called L&C but to be honest they didnt help much, perhaps as my mortgage is peanuts compared with what they are used to dealing with. I am currently with Nationwide, 58k tracker mortgage, interest only with a stocks/shares equity ISA running along side it. Seemed to be working well, the tracker part that…

MPPI's with Market Harborough BS
I'm confused about MPPI's. I want to protect my mortgage should I become unemployed or worse happen. However, I have read every where that MPPI's should not be bought from your mortgage lender as they charge the highest rates. The latest that I have read, is that Market Harborough BS based in Leicestershire offers on a…

In January, my solicitor discovered that my mortgage company had lost the deeds, and the lease to the property. The buyers solicitor…

I have been looking up spanish mortgages for the last few hours. I am a FTB who wants to buy in Spain as I plan to move there in three years. if I were going by UK rules I could afford an apartment worth £100000 if I got a 100% mortgage and obviously a bit more with a small deposit. Most of the things I have read though…

endowment misselling are ones taken out as saving plans included?

Can someone please explain an endowment query...
I have just eceived my 2004 bonus statement from Norwich Union and the figures on it are ridiculous. It reads "The regular bonus added on 31 December 2004 based on 0.00% of the £XX,XXX With-Profits benefit and 0.50% of the £YY,YYY regular bonus from previous years." How on earth do they get away with that, I thought…

Income Multiple
Hello there, first post on here so please bear with me. I am currently looking to move house and C&G (my current lender) have offered an amount which would not buy a rabbit hutch here in the south east. This is based on my required income multiple of 5.2 for the loan required. Now, I understand this is way outside the…
