REMORTGAGE ADVICE
My dad has passed away, half way through a 25yr mortgage. He was not a stupid man & believed he had taken out a repayment mortgage. We now find that it was interest only & there was no life cover to cover the loan. The problem is that in 12yrs the lender is going to want the capital element of the loan repaying & my mother…

Advice Please
Hello (this has also been posted on the credit card site) I am new to this forum, and I need some advice please. I intend to write a cheque for about £15000 from my MBNA credit card at 0% interest, and pay it into a savings account. (As per Martin's article) I think it is an excellent idea. However, I have moved house…

Superannuation
Mrs Wild Rover and I both work in jobs where we have Superannuation Pensions - we are going to have to remortgage over the next few months as we are seriously hacked off with our current providers (who have held us in the vice-like grip of a tie in at the end of a deal, to the extent that even when we said "renegotiate the…

Remortgage - Discount on What?
We took out a 0.25% Flexible Discount (discounted for 5 years, term 15 years), interest only mortgage against our current home as a way of borrowing some money in August 2001. It was presumed that the 0.25% discount was against the bank base rate which at Aug 2001 was 5%. However, the initial interest rate was 5.990% and…

Shared Ownership Mortgage Help!
We bought a 50%share of a house nearly 6 years ago with a fixed rate endowment mortgage. The tie-in period for that mortgage has finished now and I need to switch, but I don't know the best option now. We could also probably now afford to buy another 25% share. With the increase in the price of the house our half's value…

100% mortgage query
At the start of the summer we started looking at whether we could be homeowners, at this point a relative offered us the deposit, of which we were fantastically grateful. We have since found a place and been processing the purchase of this house, sales price: £166,500 of which a 5% deposit was promised. We are at the point…

Buy to let instead of a pension
Along with thousands of other people my wife's pension is in the crapper. She is considering taking a buy to let mortgage and renting out the second property. The purpose isn't to make a profit from rent but to make profit from the rise in the property value. It's intended to be a long term investment - 20 years + and she…

Will current lender give me better deal?
Hi all, I have just come out of my fixed 2 year term at 4.49% with the Abbey, and jumped onto a lifestyle rate which is something like 0.5% below base. I phoned them the other day, to find out deals for 'existing customers', and frankly compared to what is currently on the market it was awful. For example the only fixed…

Interest Only Mortgage Protection
Hi! I'm about to take out a £166,500 25 year interest only mortgage. My IFA has been keen to sell me a Scottish Provident Self Assurance Insurance policy to cover critical illness and death. The premium for this is £192 per month, which I feel is a large figure on top of the c. £800 a month mortgage. Is £192 a typical…

Endowment As A Saving Policy
When I moved house 5 years ago, I switched to a Virgin One mortgage but kept my S.Life endowment policy going. I am now wondering whether it is worth doing this or if it is worth cashing in the policy and using the money to reduce my mortage. The figures; Endowment : £50k Monthly endowment payments: £60 Years left : approx…

Scottish Amicable/Prudential Endowments
