Some basic questions about S&S ISA structure
I've been looking at investing in my first S&S ISA and doing some research into its general structure. A general rule of thumb that I've seen repeated a few times is to aim for a 60:40 split between equities and non-equities and I've just got a few questions about this way of thinking to make sure I understand things…

quick question on shares isa
Can someone please explain something I don't understand about shares isas. With a cash isa I can open a new one with a new provider each tax year, and provided I don't invest more than the limit I can add to each isa each year. So for example if I open a cash isa with barclays this year with £500 then I could still add…

75k to go in savings
We are in a very fortunate position of having 75k to put away for saving. We have never really had spare cash, always had a fair bit of manageable debt but can clear this now and have 75k to put away for roughly 10 years. What are the best accounts, we earn 2k a month between us so it could go into current accounts if…

Cheapest platform for me.
Good morning all I hope everyone is doing well. I have been browsing he site for a while now, and feel like i should contribute in some way. I've always been a cash person, but I've gone as far as I can with the rates. I wish to utilise a S&S ISA using the vanguard like strat 60% acc. I only want to start by putting £100…

Starting a S&S ISA: Vanguard LS. Platform?
Have been reading arround this forum and the different sites suggested, I have decided that I am going to invest in Vanguard Life Strategy Fund Acc 100%. I have not contributed to ISA this year and would be investing full amount of 11,500 before April and further full S&S allowance after April. Not sure about the platform…

Buckingham Building Society
I have a cash ISA maturing at the end of April. They have offered various maturity options. These include a 2 year option at base rate plus 1.5%. Not sure if it will be open to everyone. It's not currently showing on the web site but may be in the process of launching. Maybe of interest to some....

Worth fixing for a year for 2%
Hi all My wife's Virgin E-ISA issue 1 rate is dropping to 1.5% however they have some exclusive fixed rate offers for an alternative ISA. These are: 2% until 26th May 15 2.4% until 26th May 17 3% until 26th May 19 Given the terrible rates at the minute, do you think it's worthwhile moving to the 2% fixed rate for a year?…

Asked To Re-Activate Halifax ISA
One of my existing fixed cash ISAs is with the Halifax - it's "matured" and become an ISA Saver Variable with a pathetic rate. I intend to transfer it out in due course. When I view it online it asks me to re-activate it because I haven't paid into it for a full tax year. As part of the re-activation process it has this…

Monthly interest or Annual..? Which will give more?
Hi guys, My sister wants to go for the Skipton 5 year fixed ISA. My question is do we go for monthly or annual interest? Annual: 3.00% tax free pa/AER Monthly: 2.96% tax free pa/3.00% AER ...So does the interest equal the same at the end of the year? ..or does the monthly option give more? because the interest is…

Transfer from Cash ISA to S &S ISA
In view of the pitiful interest rates being offered, I decided to move a 4%+ cash ISA on maturity to Charles Stanley Direct to fund an S & S ISA. I received the statement from Birmingham Midshires last week with a closure/transfer date of 24th Feb. but the money has not yet appeared as a credit with CS. They have now…

Interest on my Santander cash ISA
I opened the 2.5% Cash ISA with Santander on the 6th April last year and have been paid the interest 3rd March 2014. Is this normal and does it include interest (potentially) accrued up until 5th April? I was expecting to get the interest on 5th April you see.

Virgin S&S ISA - Stopping Direct Debit?
Does anyone know if there is a way to switch off regular monthly Direct Debit payments into a Virgin S&S ISA via the Web site, or is it necessary to phone them up? The FAQs for the product says that the DD can be stopped or amended at any time, but the amendment form won't let me enter zero as the new amount, and I…

Stocks & Shares ISA for low cost passive investment
Hi folks, I've been reading through the investment guide emails that YNAB (You Need a Budget, great piece of software) have been sending me and I'm considering using my ISA allowance in the new financial year to open a Stocks & Shares ISA. Trouble is all the advice in the guide is based on the American market and the…

ASDA (Walmart) Sharesave Scheme – Retention and Trading of Shares
I wonder if any forum members are able to advise in matters linked to ASDA’s Sharesave Scheme. I have been contributing to the ASDA Sharesave Scheme for the past three years and my plan is due to mature in July. I am aware that many ASDA Colleagues tend to sell their shares as soon as they are able after maturity. Indeed,…

Lock it up? For how long? Advice please
Hi, Please would you give me the benefit of your wisdom (or crystal ball gazing) to help me assess which way to go with my cash ISA? (This is very specific and does not require discussion of the pros and cons of a S&S ISA, I'm hugely risk averse, thank you very much.) I currently have a maxed 2013-14 easy access variable…

ISA interest dropped. Wait until April?
I'm not very ISA savvy, but I do know my NS&I rate dropped badly last week so I want to move my cash ISA. I've had that account for just over a year, the last bit of interest went in in April. If I pull the money out now will I lose the next bit of interest? Shall I wait til April to ditch? Or if I transfer it, will the…

How long should an ISA Transfer take?
I asked Chelsea Building Society to transfer my ISA from Halifax to them. The money left Halifax on the 24th Feb but has not appeared in my Chelsea ISA account yet. I know they used to do this by cheque but surely we are in the electronic age now and it should be instantaneous. (It is only £5500). I assume I am missing out…

Halifax Cash ISA 2014
Hi folks, ISA season is pretty much upon us, and though we don’t know what rates will be like this year yet, we're starting to do some digging and want to know if you've heard anything through the grapevine. Things like details of Halifax's new ISAs, rate changes or deals exclusively for existing customers, anything at all…
