Adding Shares to an ISA
My Fiance has never had the time to plan his finances and I’m trying to ensure we are maximising our joint allowances. To get him started we opened a Cash ISA for him with £5100.00 in April this year. He has one very old ISA which was opened as a PEP with Family Mutual. I’ve just checked their website and it’s worth…

Premium Bonds Endorsed on "Freakonomics"
I just listened to the Freakonomics podcast for this week. A summary is here on the New York Times site. Marin is famously hostile but this is an interesting argument. Of course, we have Premium Bonds, though they seem to have a much lower profile than they used to. I've always liked these lines of thinking. A classic is…

'Lost' ISA funds?
Due to mix up between Lloyds transferring funds to M&S, neither of them seem to have the funds and are looking into it! In these circumstances, who is responsible for the 'lost' balance? TIA Vigman

Isa confusion
Hello. Several questions. I have just taken out an ISA with Halifax using the full allowance, which will mature in November next year. Can I take out a new Isa in April next year, with a different provider, for the full allowance again. What can I do with the Halifax ISA next November, assuming the answer to the first…

Technology Funds
Good evening all! I'm looking to broaden my portfolio by including a technology orientated fund and have narrowed it down to one of 4 so i was wondering what, if any, experience or thoughts people have on them to help me make my decision (if it helps, I'm 27 and won't (hopefully) need the money invested for 5-10 years, if…

Wheres my Nationwide interest & should i now merge my ISAs?
QUESTION1: Should i switch I have 12.8k worth of previous tax year ISA money. This was always with Nationwide. This tax year however (2010-11) i invested the full £5,100 with Barclays towards the end of April. This was when they were offering a rate of 3.10% with a 1.00% bonus IIRC, which has now dropped to 2.06% IIRC.…

S&S ISA with pension style fund switch capabilities (stay in market)
Are there any S&S ISA providers that allow investors the ability to switch between funds (supermarket) without having to liquidate them first? Also, looking for a provider that allows switching same day if orders are placed before the valuation cut off of mid day. Have ruled out: RBS share dealing (TDW) HL

ISa Limits
I understand that the maximum that can be invested in a cash ISA £5100 or £10200 in a stocks and shares one. My question is: If I invest £3000 in a cash ISA does this mean that the max I can invest in a S&S one is £5100 or can I make up the difference to £10200 and invest £7200 into the S&S one? Many thanks

Base Rate Increase and ISA Transfers
I am looking to transfer my ISA from HSBC as my interest rate is poor. Halifax are doing an ISA at a rate of 2.8% for a year. I need a flexible ISA where I can draw money out without penalties so this is ideal. I have, however, heard a rumour that base rates may be going up by 2% at the beginning to end of 2011. Can anyone…

ISA or no ISA that's the question
I have two IAS's maturing this month Both with the Post Office and noticed the best rate I can get or expect is 2.8% Interest Tax Free. Or is it time to take out a one year bond at 3.4% and forget about the Tax shelter. I am not interested in the 2, 3, 4 year ISA’s as I feel inflation will come in 12 months or more. My…

Time to switch
Simple question really & probably stupid one at that :0) When is it best to switch from one fund to another, i.e. while market are down (e.g. today) or when they are (comparatively) up? I know some of my funds are just not performing and thinking of switching to other (currently) better performing funds. Obviously, no…

ISA Withdrawrals?
I am a complete novice when it comes to ISAs. I'm 24, have never had one, I want one but they confuse me! I understand you can save a max £5100 in a cash ISA per tax year. I get that. I am confused about making withdrawrals. Say I invest £1000 to begin with. If I had to withdraw half of that, I understand I would only be…

Slow Lloyds?
On the same day that I asked Newcastle to transfer fund to M&S, my wife asked Lloyds to transfer to M&S as well. Newcastle was done and dusted days ago, but nothing yet from Lloyds. Are they known to be slow/inefficient? TIA Vigman

Unsure of S&S ISA
I was advised by my Building Society (Britannia) to open a S&S ISA as my savings weren't making very much interest and realistically I was losing money as the interest was keeping up with the rate of inflation. I'm just wondering what's the worst case scenario for a S&S ISA, I know money can go down as well as up but can I…

Isa Transfer
Banks and Building Societies are marketing products which accept cash Isa transfers in exchange for a 5 or 6 year tie up and a possible return averageing 5% P A. This sounds good for old Isa's which can attract interest as low as 0.1% PA. Having been to several presentations I decided to sign up for one, but after reading…

Cash and S&S ISA - same financial institution?
Hi all I understand how to use cash ISAs no problem, but for the first time next year I will be looking at an S&S ISA (have only had cash up until now). If I want to use my full cash allowance and take an S&S ISA in addition, can I take a cash ISA with Bank A, and an S&S with Bank B? Or do I have to open one 'product' with…

Cash in shares ISA and invest in Cash ISA
