Clarity on the rules
Hi, Can anyone confirm ISA behaviour in the following scenario: Assuming I open a new stocks and shares ISA starting in the new 2010 / 2011 tax year and do the following 2010 / 2011 I place £10,200 in over the course of the tax year Total = £10,200 2011 / 2012 I place another £10,200 in over the course of the tax year…

Transferring money from an ISA for a House Deposit
Hi, I am in the process of buying a house and need to transfer the money in my ISA (about 12k) to my solicitors in the coming weeks. Its an Abbey (Santander) Direct Cash ISA. What the best way to get the money to my Solicitor - transferring to my HSBC bank account and then transferring via online/telephone? Or just…

Nationwide miscalculate interest on fixed-term bond
Nationwide sent me their standard letter asking me what I want to do with the proceeds when a one-year 3% ISA matures on 31 March 2010. Appallingly, they miscalculated the maturity value. They included interest only for 364 days. OK, not much in practice, but the sort of thing they should get right. After the usual…

ISA Query - Contribution !
Hi all, Quick query that I can't recall seeing mentioned before (apologies if it has)... I can only contribute to one ISA in a Tax year....no problem so far. So, say I contribute to an existng ISA with Buidling Society A in the 2010/2011 Tax year on the 23 April 2010 - this becomes my "Contributing ISA" for the Tax year…

Cash ISA wars - who wants your wad?
Now the cash ISA wars are hotting up, why is it there are no adverts like the Asda one where they slag off Tesco's and Morrison's by quoting prices at mysupermarket.co.uk? Barclays could slag off Natwest etc by comparing their interest rate with the others. We all know why - because if they did use an independent financial…

Can I do this ?
I have an ISA with £25k which matures in May. Can I deposit the 2010/11 allowance into that same ISA and then transfer the whole lot out at a later stage to a newly opened ISA elsewhere if I wanted or would my deposit into the old ISA stop me from doing so ? Thanks

Isa/Equity Release Question
My wife and I are both non-taxpayers but over the years that we did pay tax, we have built up cash ISA's which obviously will mature on 5th April next. On completion of my mortgage this year, I hope to take advantage of equity release to raise cash. My question is this. Once we have raised the equity, are we required to…

Transferring ISAs
Hi all, Just a quick question. I have two ISAs that have matured. I can either transfer them and get around 3.5% interest with another provider, or I can cash them in and pay off some of my mortgage (I'm currently paying 5.9%). What is best? Whilst paying off some of my mortgage will save me money, it is quite nice to have…

Inheritance into an ISA?
I've just inherited a fairly decent amount of money and I want to know if it's worth putting a chunk of it into a cash ISA. As I understand it, the amount you can invest in one tax year goes up in April so am I better waiting til then and paying in the full allowed amount, or can I put in this year's allowance and then in…

s & s isa (DIY)
Can you open a S & S isa with say £10200 and actively trade shares within the isa as you would with a share dealing account. staying in the same shares for long periods of time is the least rewarding way of investing. If you buy and sell on retraces it can be far more rewarding even taking dealing charges and stamp duty…

War Loan 3.5%
I'm thinking about my ISA options this year, and wondering whether to be a bit more unconventional this time around. I know there's a risk to capital, with it being a bond, but I'm wondering if I may be better buying the War Loan within a Stocks and Shares ISA than saving in a conventional cash ISA. It's trading at the…

when do people get their new isa's
With the isa deadline looming I was wondering when people subscribed to a new isa. Personally im hoping the santander isa will still be available come april. But im aware that some of the best offers get introduced in the march when i've already funded my isa. Im aware that i would lose out on 1 yrs tax free interest but…

I should read the small print!
Okay, I should read the small print, but maybe someone has done this. I am 8 days into the cash isa transfer process to Nationwide FRISA annual interest (3yrs). My plans may change and a monthly interest FRISA would suit me better - can I change now i.e. is there a cooling off period? Again I must ask Nationwide, but maybe…

ISA withdrawls
Hi all, I have always been proud of my knowledge of ISAs but there is one thing that has got me stumped. I have paid into a cash isa for many years and I now have all that in one account. I have not paid any money in yet this year. If I were to withdraw cash it would come out of previous years. If I had paid any money in…
