Sink smell and breeze coming from sink after plumber fitted a new sink
Just paid a plumber to replace my kitchen sink because I wanted a drainer, and to plumb in a dishwasher. My kitchen smells a bit bad now, I notice it when I walk in for a few seconds. When I hold my hand over the sink drain I can feel a very slight breeze. Here's a photo under my sink. Is there anything wrong with the…
Dog Theft

Replacing an old Dyson handheld DC34 - any better alternatives out there?
The battery on our Dyson DC34 handheld is no longer holding enough charge for our staircase. We could simply replace the battery, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend anything significantly better, in terms of performance and/or battery life (the Dyson never lasted more than 6-8 minutes, even when it was new). We…
Upvc trickle vents
Hi all, Looking to replace the trickle vents on a few windows in the house as they seem to have failed. I can't find any with the same length screw width. Is it just a simple task to drill new holes on the frame and fix the new ones or is there more to it or anything I need to be wary of. Thanks in advance
House Extension - Steel Frame
Hey our builder has suggested a steel frame instead of traditional brick, which I am all for. More sustainable, less man hours, stronger etc. Are there any major issues with this? Or has anyone had this before?
LED Lights - where to put earth?
Hi, I am trying to install some spotlights in our kitchen. I can't see anywhere on the fitting to install the earth wire. I tried to show the setup in the attached photo. Can anyone tell me what I should do with it? I had a look on Youtube for that type of fitting (the Philips myLiving Spot light) but can't see what I am…
Electricians - your thoughts on this fuse box?
A house we're looking at has this fuse box. Obviously it's old and needs replacing but I have no idea how old or if it will cause major problems bringing it up to current regulations. It's in a 1930's 3 bedroom semi detached house with an extended kitchen. The rest of the house seems okay ie all plug sockets have been…

Loft conversion building regs
Hi there, I’m after a bit of advice re. Loft conversions. We bought our house about five years ago (it was built in around 1900), the loft has been converted into an office and has a full staircase accessed through a door off the master bedroom. The seller had out an indemnity policy in place presumably because the loft…
Boiler Size - what are the consequences of going too big?
Hi,We are planning on replacing our boiler this spring/summer and I'm in the process of doing research for it. My main concern is getting the boiler size (central heating output) correct as I've read that the wrong size can cause issues. Too small and it won't sufficiently heat my home and too big and it will cost us extra…
